Thank God we didn't get the coach I wanted

I was pissed when the Tom Herman thing didn't work out, and when our former athletic director so quickly pivoted to O.
Since then look at the great job Coach Orgeron has done. Meanwhile Tom Herman is 23-14 overall and 16-10 in an underwhelming league.
I was dead wrong and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Thank you Coach Orgeron for making LSU great again.

I never liked Tom Herman. In fact he always seemed creepy.
First and foremost I was on the Jimbo train. He's a great coach and was a great OC at LSU. Then, I was hoping we'd get one of the young Turks like PJ Fleck, or a proven offensive mind like Lane Kiffin or Sark.

Tom and Jimbo were BOTH using LSU for leverage. PERIOD.
Everyone seemed to ignore that Jimbo after having a world class QB for 4 yrs, had not developed a backup and left the program in bad shape. Not all good OCs make good head coaches.
Tom actually lost 4 games in his last season at Houston.
His only decent win was Louisville.

I wanted him also but when he used us to get a better deal with Texas I moved on quickly

Don’t think that was true of Jimbo. I really believe a deal was in place for Jimbo to leave until ya boy FKA nixed it

I had this exact conversation this morning with my wife...about how I was wrong. I have always loved Coach O, but I was convinced that Herman was better. Happy I was WRONG!

My number one choice was Jimbo. Proven talent with Louisiana connections. However, after the prior LSU screwing, I didn’t think Jimbo’s self esteem would allow it. TAMU must have thought so because they made a ludicrous offer.
I was not convinced Of Herman, I didn’t think his small school resume qualified him for LSU caliber head coach. I also thought he was a Texas certainty from day one.
O wasn’t in my top 5. But I didn’t get all negatiger like the majority of the rant. I knew he could recruit and motivate. I was wait and see, while hoping for the best.
I waited, I saw, and so far we got the best!

Fleck is still looking good at Minnesota. The Big10 is still winnable for them.

I just thank God we have an AD incomplete enough to actually pull the trigger on hiring O. It was the right choice by a mile but didn’t seem like it at the time.

I would love to bump some of the Coach O was shite hire look at what he did at ole miss threads. Coach O was not my first choice but I was all onboard with giving him a chance. I liked what I saw after ole miss and as temp LSU coach. If we win natty I am gonna bump that shite.

Alleva was right for immediately getting out of the Herman race when Texas got involved. He was always going to Texas and it was just going to be a bidding war.
He was not right in immediately going with O and rushing to the podium. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t have ultimately hired O but the process from Herman to O seemed rushed and was a bad PR move. Which kind of summed up the Alleva era. Even when he was in the right they were so bad at PR it looked like they were wrong. The Florida game in 2016 is another example of this. LSU was in the right but allowed Florida to make them look like punks in the court of public opinion.

Still early tho. Herman might turn it around. He had a lot of injuries this year

Jimbo was not a "great" OC. We couldn't run him out of town fast enough in 2004-05. How quickly we forget. I've never considered him a great coach. He got lucky with Winston at FS. Other than that, what has he done?

you would be very busy...and I was posting his record at OM has nothing to do with how he will do at LSU. I got shite constantly for saying you can't compare how LSU and OM offer support for their programs.

so was I and I was actually very confident he would make us elite again.

I just thank God we didn't get a hire than put us on the coaching carousel. Looking at what happened to Tennessee and Arkansas is awful...one bad hire makes you pull the trigger on another, then on another and before you know it your program is rubble.
