Is this the portion of the season where everyone thinks Texas is “back” because they beat a completely uninspired good team who is disappointed the missed out on a playoff appearance?

Oregon played in the initial CFP in 2014-15. They beat FSU at the Rose Bowl in the semifinals & lost to OSU in the Championship game.
Washington made it to the semis & played Bama in the Peach Bowl in 2016-17. The Huskies lost but the game was competitive. Bama ended up losing to Clemson in the Title game.
