LSU's coach makes 9 million a year, as much as a pro coach, left his team before the season was over, and 50k a year for an offensive lineman at texas is what's going to kill the sport?

It’s a bit hyperbolic for sure, but honestly I only care about how these things impact LSU, and it doesn’t seem like a good thing.

This is the type of recruiting issues I expected with NIL....and it will get worse.

Why would you not go take $50K per year to play at TEXAS?

Next, Bama and others will counter with higher payroll....

I sure hope this stuff doesn't get out of comtrol.

Hate to tell you, but most ADs dont make a profit. Football pretty much pays for all other athletic programs as well.

Exactly, well known fact.

One more thing, they start getting this kind of money along with all the fringe benefits they already get, I will drop my longstanding policy of not criticizing the individual college players for lack of production/execution. They are employees.

the genie is out of the bottle.

Now the cure is an NIL cap, much like pro sports salary cap.

College football will soon become essentially a pro league.

The problem isn't the money, it's the amount. This should have been capped before they made a ruling on it. You get 800k in addition to everything else you already get, just by being on the team for 5 years. I'm no fool, I'd be running and gunning for that kind of money. There is no point in even recruiting Texas hard anymore for highly rated guys unless you are willing to match that.

Would be cool if the IRS investigated this fake charity. They are going to write this shite off as charitable donations too. What a fricking scam

My problem is with the laws governing NGOs in the U.S.
To advertise this as a "charitable organization" is just like all the Soros funded organizations that are causing the downfall of America. A "charity" paying a university $800k per year so they can buy players, and it's tax exempt.

I run a small non-profit organization and make sure that all donations go directly intended to those we were formed to assist. The US Congress and Justice Department need to find a way to limit this, but it currently funds Democratic corruption so good luck.

I would have actually supported a profit sharing plan, shared across the entire conference. This makes it controllable.

And, in that case, it actually WOULD be subject to TitleIX. Imagine having to split it among every athlete, they would each get about $20. I'm not a fan of it, but this (NIL) was the only way that they could make it happen. I actually agree with it in principle, the problem is that it is wide open for corruption and there is little to nothing that we can do about it. I also see the NCAA being neutered as a happy consequence, they have done a shite job of arbitrarily enforcing vague rules for years.

The real problem is the government-backed 100% fraudulent financial system.

Oh okay… keep telling yourself that.

quote:

The program is the product. If the nfl was forced to start a minor league and the top 25 players from Louisiana every year played for the AAA Louisiana crawfish and the next 25 top players went to the AA Louisiana oysters and the next 25 went to LSU. Tiger stadium would still put close to 100,000 in the stands and the AAA team and the AA team would be playing in front sparse crowds mostly of their parents and girlfriends.

Yeah this would be true for a year or two. But when those college football teams sucked - ie the product was bad - and football fans saw a better product from the minor league teams, people would watch that.

You guys like LSU the football team and might only watch LSU. But other people would watch better football.
