Huh??

This is great use of the new law & exactly what it’s intended to be used for

It's not. This is an attempt to compensate players and make Texas attractive to players as a result:

quote:

“The best University in the country deserves an NIL program to match. With Austin now home to some of the biggest businesses in the world, we knew there was an easy way to connect the business community to athletes while creating something that not only facilitates opportunity, but also educates and helps prepare them for life after sports,” Ford said.

This isn't an existing entity that sees an independent advantage in using UT players to market their product. This is a brand new non-profit that is meant to compensate athletes under the guise of a non-profit meant for charitable giving.

You may not think that's a bad thing, but honest people don't have to pretend that this is about NIL.

All the money being thrown around in college football is insane now. Everyone just one ups the other at an alarming rate.

If I just Give a kid a bag of cash and says it’s NIL money, is it now NIL money?

Yes. You don’t have to submit any sort of documentation proving the player actually did work for you. And if even if you did, here’s a letter saying this player showed up to my kids birthday party for $100,000.

They aren’t even pretending it’s for an appearance.

They’re just saying “this is NIL money”

This is correct. Olivia Dunne isn't making millions due to her gymnastics. I'm sure she is a decent gymnast, but the only reason she is making NIL money is because she is attractive and hit the right vein on TikTok.

She has a vagina and is cute. That is why she’s making money

I bet the NCAA makes changes to the NIL after schools do stuff like this.

They already stated NIL is not pay for play. Schools can not organize.

It's just out in the open now and non-profitable sports' athletes can now get a little (or a lot) of money off of their image.

No more mcdonald's cash bag drops anymore.

That's the goal of the elites, who have their hand in everything.

What is one thing that unites folks of all races and economic backgrounds? Answer: College Football. Look at the "mass of humanity" celebration after the Michigan win last weekend. It was unbelievable. It was euphoric for everyone involved. I'm sure it's all everyone in Michigan has talked about since - and it's all good, no matter who is talking to whom. The Elites put a stop to this because college football is the antithesis of lockdowns, social distancing, work from home, school from home, etc.

I would argue the old Money grab by schools and athletic departments started it.

Can you blame the players for wanting a piece
Of the action? They’re the product.

This is the end of college sports as we know it. The low iQ people like Moscona and Lester are just too stupid to realize it. And I don’t think the Supreme Court ruled on it. I know one justice made a statement about the NCAA making a lot of money off the backs of the players and them not getting any of the money they bring in. But they don’t bring it in. And even if they did, NIL doesn’t give any of the money from the NCAA to the players. So it doesn’t fix gorsuch’s issue anyway. These corporations/donors create a non profit charity and give the money away and it is probably tax deductible. The money probably used to go to actual charities so it’s not helping the communities. Most intelligent people realized this when they were talking about NIL that it was a horrible idea. I still remember saying to moscona that this was going to ruin college sports and boosters would be giving athletes a million dollars to go to school. He said everyone was crazy and that no one was going to give some kid a million. First year and Ewers got a million to skip his senior year of high school and go to OSU. When college football as we know it is officially dead the cause of death will be suicide by stupidity.

I would have actually supported a profit sharing plan, shared across the entire conference. This makes it controllable.

NIL guarantees an uneven playing field. The NCAA failed in this regard.

You guys really say this shite with a straight face.

LSU's coach makes 9 million a year, as much as a pro coach, left his team before the season was over, and 50k a year for an offensive lineman at texas is what's going to kill the sport?

People who are clinging to some fake narrative that this is amateur sports are the only one's who think anything is dying.

And how will this reduce parity as one poster suggested? Only 6 teams have won a NC since 2010. Only 11 in the last 21 years. There's really only 15-20 teams that could legitimately compete for a NC.

If anything this gives a team that hasn't won a natty a way to compete with the things bama and the like are already doing.

It kills the spirit of collegiate athletics. It’s one thing for the player to go out and make his own money, it’s an entirely different thing to pay them if they are on the team (I.e. these Texas football boosters)

Again, this is some dumb crap. If we were trying to preserve the spirit of college athletics, then no one who wasn't in college would care about college athletics.

The universities wouldn't be raking in millions in tv, merch etc.

The administrations and adults who make millions started all this and people thinking young college kids wanting to make a little of the $ for themselves are a problem, are the actual problem.

College football could actually stay just like it is for many decades, but they'd have to pay the players. They aren't going to do that, so I suspect college football will be forced to change.

But the players are the product. If you make an argument that their scholarships are the payment, then the universities should make no more money than enough to cover those expensises. Once a university athletic department makes more than that, it kills its own argument.

Hate to tell you, but most ADs dont make a profit. Football pretty much pays for all other athletic programs as well.

The players aren’t the product. The program is the product. If the nfl was forced to start a minor league and the top 25 players from Louisiana every year played for the AAA Louisiana crawfish and the next 25 top players went to the AA Louisiana oysters and the next 25 went to LSU. Tiger stadium would still put close to 100,000 in the stands and the AAA team and the AA team would be playing in front sparse crowds mostly of their parents and girlfriends.

Wait until the haves completely separate from the ncaa. And the have nots stay. Then college athletics will be unrecognizable. Complete free agency.

Not saying this is right or wrong, because I generally do not like the ncaa, but this is where nil is headed.
