I just “don’t see”, how a team that would regularly drop games to the likes of Kansas thinks they will legitimately compete for the SEC championship year 1, especially when missing their top running backs.

Betting the season under 10.5 wins for them was the easiest bet I’ve ever made

"I just don't see it" doing a lot of work for

"I don't know what the frick I'm talking about, but I feel like I should speak on everything with arrogance because I'm Texan."

We do have question marks and a lot of change. I guess we’ll find out soon enough

I mean they beat the eventual SEC Champion last year and made the CFB Playoff…

He may be right on these nobody can really say. It's a pretty grounded take honestly. That being said, his opinion is no better than anyone else on here because nobody has a clue how good LSU will be this year.

I can see his take on Nuss and the defense. However, you can't really undersell what a new coaching staff can do with young talent that's 1 year older and developing. No telling who will take the next step forward. I think anyone could see LSU's defense last year was way more talented than they played and that's on coaching.

They also lost to their most hated rival and might have missed the playoff alltogether save for the 'Noles getting fricked

Well, we will worry about that in the 2034 season with Nuss' little brother then. For now we are looking great for 2024.

Nuss doesn't need to replace Jayden's production alone. We will have an improved running game with elite backs to do that. Our offense will still be very good. And the defense will be much improved. We already know this from camp, but we can also see that players who sucked under House are making NFL rosters. It was coaching not talent.

Nussmeier is a fine QB, but he won’t repeat the Heisman level production from Jayden Daniels

That's not an unreasonable statement. It would be VERY difficult for Nussmeier to repeat Daniels' 2023 performance. If, for no other reason, he simply can't run like Daniels.

Secondary is still bad.

It's hard to make a definitive statement, but LSU brought back many of the same players from last year's group absent true freshman. Now, I think the DC from last year played a big role in that group being THAT bad. But it's hard to say they are significantly improved until we see it in action

quote:

Still no legit pass rushers from the EDGE/DL room

Again, not wholly unreasonable (unless you are counting Perkins as an "edge"). LSU returns a total of 7.5 combined sacks among the group of Swinson, Shand, Womack and Jones...with none, individually, having more than 2.5 sacks last season. LSU doesn't return a single DT who recorded a sack or TFL (for LSU) from last year. Again, I think a lot of that was due to the scheme. But I can understand why those outside wouldn't be terribly confident about LSU's defense.

I thought last year LSU was set up for great success going into the season. The offense was returning a ton of good, experienced players and though they lost some guys, there was nothing to make anyone believe a top 40 defense in 2022 would completely collapse to a unit ranked in the 100's

There are FAR more questions going into the season than last, and LSU/BK lost the benefit of the doubt with last year's underachievement. That means LSU is going to have to earn it back by proving it on the field.

Or Saban's views were disingenuous and it was intentional rat poison

That is a very reasonable statement.

I’d add that there’s no game breakers at WR.

We still have an elite OL.and we have a RB who has all SEC potential.

We have an elite TE.

On paper, there are significant question marks.

his points are on par with someone who hasn't been around the LSU football team this camp. Which he hasn't. His post should start with "My uninformed opinion of LSU is.."

Could be but we play the games anyway. Here's to 10-2 and the playoffs.

I just don’t see how UT is nearly close to elite. They had a cupcake schedule last year and lost to the only real competition in OU.
Pure luck by getting into the CFP.

Saban didn’t even know who he should have been playing QB at the time. Milton was a lot better by seasons end once they figured out how to properly utilize him.

Are they? Several people who have been covering LSU all fall have said very similar things.
