Well, I must say I agree with you again that Newman is better coming in at start of inning.
PM did not have him or anyone ready in bullpen. He has done this consistently and has cost the team.

You right, hind sight is only good if used as analysis tool. Hopefully we will see a change in managing pitching staff.

This is my biggest complaint. I watched damn near every inning of the classic at the ball park, and every team had several people sitting in the pen from the 1st pitch, or at the very least they went down there in between the early innings. we seem to wait till the guys struggling badly on the mound just to start warming up

Romero. 4 for 10 on the weekend. I'll take that along with the power he provides

I don't think 4-10 tells the whole story. At least 2 of these were bloop hits. They count just the same, but it's not like he crushed the ball. With that said, I think either he or Woley is our best option at DH going forward. I also think Coomes needs to catch at least 1 game every weekend.

It never does. He had a double and 2 RBIs. And on the year, he only has 1 SO and 2 BBs.

Again, I was surprised not to see more of Woley but I really do think Romero getting back in it is more important than playing the hot bat with Woley. We are struggling to find someone to protect Deichmann, and Romero would fit that role perfectly.

Yes, Romero definitely answered the bell as a veteran should which was good news. He hit nine homers last year I believe and we need another home run hitter to match with Deichman.

Question, what is Worley's "natural" position?

Let's not forget Romero crushed a ball in yesterday's game that is probably out the park at the Box.

Seriously, we have too many players in the mix with no real position as of yet.

Romero, Adams, Worley, and to a lesser extent Beau Jordan really have no "natural" position, and since there is only one DH we can't always put the hot bat in the game.

Can Worley play third? If Smith continues to struggle maybe you could see Smith v righties and Worley v lefties????

Just throwing that out there looking to get a big right handed bat in the game v lefties.

Woley*

Smith is too good at 3B and too good of a hitter. He struggled this weekend but could easily have been 4-12 instead of 1-12.

Like I said, IF HE CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE.

Just looking down the road to see if Woley can handle third.

And yes Smith is a cut above most third baseman on defense, plus he can run the bases.

No question, he is a better option provided he hits the good lefties and righties.

It is alarming that Papierski is still having problems defensively. That's supposed to be the best part of his game.

I don't get to see too many Tigers baseball games but I have the impression that he has been a disappointment given that he was a highly thought of recruit. If I'm off base here, I apologize.

Good analysis, I agree with your points.

I'm getting tired of fans piling on CPM about pitching. They are very hypocritical when it comes to that. Every time a pitcher starts to get his the critics come out about leaving him in there. Then they complain about his wholestaff approach. Sometimes, especially early in the season you need to leave those guys in there to see how they handle the adversity.

I've criticized him for it in the past. And I understand why people are quick to jump on him since it IS a known problem. But not every bad outing from a pitcher falls on his shoulders.

We had a really good time at this tournament despite the losses. Hope LSU plays in it soon again.

Put a force at every base the runner at first means nothing. It really is the right baseball play.

I'd normally agree. But it made me cringe watching them walk a batter who was 0-4 with 2K's on the day.

Edit: Nm, that was the other intentional walk.

True, but he also crushed one that would have been out of many ballparks, but instead a long out.

I didn't see that one. I was only able to catch some of the games.

We need to shake up the order. Move Josh Smith down to 9 and move someone like Slaughter/Romero/Coomes behind Deichmann. I was happy to see Romero playing well again. I kinda thought he had lost his spot but after this weekend it's going to be tough to not give him at bats.

I would put Romero/RH at #5 behind Deichmann, then Slaughter in the #6 spot. If they want to pitch around D, then you have to throw some FB's to Romero.

I'm a selfish a-hole and the constant Shriner's shilling during the games took away from my enjoyment. I get pimping the sponsor, but when there is a ton of action going on, I'd prefer we focus on the game rather than some guy I don't care about murking up the broadcast.

I get it, but I can't fully agree here. I know it makes it harder to watch and enjoy, and I would be in full agreement if this were Random Corporate Sponsor.

But this is a charitable organization trying to spread awareness and generate donations. So, while I'd rather just watch the game, for them, I'll grin and bear it.

The Shriner's Classic is a fund-raising event for them and is a very good cause. The Shriner's Hospitals corrected a birth defect in one of my nephews and allowed him to be an all-state baseball player. The Shriner's have a Courage Award in his name. And he was one of the ambassadors last year during the Rice-TCU game and was in the Ole Miss commercial this year. His issue is no longer really noticeable and pales in comparison to what many of those kids have suffered. But his involvement with the Shriner's is why he is studying pre-med at Ole Miss.

I said pull him but that's instinct. Your quote is right on. Big spots for hitters get hype, but the exact same case can be made for a guy getting out of a jam.

On another point, we had to listen to people comparing us to Bama football by the end of it. It gets ridiculous, too far off base, admins should help keep people on topic.
