Their defense is good enough and make no mistake about it, they've had this game circled like always.

Fingers crossed we can stop the run so they don't eat the clock

But LSU MUST blitz Perkins as well. Mileoe has ZERO pocket awareness and I say that with full confidence. He will not escape Perk.
Staying in their rush lanes and not over rushing Milroe is going to be key. Milroe wants to run, if we lose our lanes he will keep getting first downs with his legs. Need to keep him in the pocket. Rushing Perk, Swinson, Wingo, and Maason Smith on 3rd downs should be the norm, but I don't want to see everytime we rush Milroe we leave our lane or over rush leaving a lane for him to run like we have done most the year.

With Milroe's deep ball capability and our secondary is what I'm worried about. He is as good with the deep ball as JD5.
Yep they will try to keep the run game going, but Nick knows you have to exploit the secondary, the weak link, in order to win and to keep up with the LSU offense.
I expect run heavy and take a chance on a deep pass, if it's not there then run for the 1st down.
We just need to have long possessions and minimize the exposure of our secondary. Maybe 1st qtr run tempo and then slow it down.

You better stop burton also, he turned things around in the Tennessee game

It's almost like these zone principles had Milroe and Bama in mind from the beginning.

Get an early 14 pt lead and force Molroe to pass the ball

Didn't A&M try this "stop the run" approach and got torched by Milroe and Burton?

At this point we all know how great Jayden is. The world finds out on November 4th.

I can see the gump offense running over this defense. Feather in a few chunk pass plays by Milroe and voila..a gump win.
The offense will need to be nearly perfect for LSU to win.

I have a hard time thinking Alabama does not at least score 30. Yes, Milroe hasn't been good. But they have some decent WRs and Milroe, while not consistent, is capable of hitting a few big passes a game.
I fear many fans are looking at the last two games for LSU has an indication of significant improvement defensively and ignoring just how bad the last two offenses they played truly were. Still, I think the OP is right. The best LSU can do is try to stop the run and take their chances of getting hit for big plays in the passing game.
The good news is LSU's offense is humming and I don't think there is any particular gameplan one can use to stop it. LSU's offensive scheme/approach isn't particularly creative or complicated. In fact, it's pretty predictable in terms of play calling. The thing that makes it great is they generally have an answer to any defense you're in. Daniels and Diggs can essentially just run a traditional option offense. There is also a pass play built in on many of the reads to make it a "triple option". LSU can spread you and run Daniels up the middle for 30. They can be a pocket passing team. If a defense wants to play zone underneath LSU is happy to throw comeback routes and let their receivers make plays after the catch. If you want to go one-on-one with a WR (particularly Nabers or Thomas) LSU won't hesitate to take a shot with that matchup.

Yes we have talent but it wont matter when Saban's front 7 whips our front guys and gets to Daniels.
They didn’t exactly do that last season against a wirse Oline. Idk where you get the idea they are this unstoppable defense.
My guess is you’re still stuck in the Les Miles era shitting yourself thinking about Bama. Either that or fake fan.

Correct - spying doesn’t work when you have no legit SEC starters at corner.

quote:I was curious what the defensive stats for Arkansas, Mizzou, and Auburn look like without the LSU game. The numbers aren't far off from Alabama's.
Bama has a real defense. Best one we will see all year.
Alabama
Total YPG: 306.4
Pass D YPG: 197.6
Rush D YPG: 108.8
Scoring D: 16.5
Arkansas w/o LSU game
Total YPG: 307.9
Pass D YPG: 184.4
Rush D YPG: 123.4
Scoring D: 21.3
Mizzou w/o LSU game
Total YPG: 310.1
Pass D YPG: 221.3
Rush D YPG: 88.9
Scoring D: 19.6
Auburn w/o LSU game
Total YPG: 339.8
Pass D YPG: 195.5
Rush D YPG: 144.3
Scoring D: 19.8
Ole Miss w/o LSU game (held Alabama to 24 points)
Total YPG: 328.0
Pass D YPG: 212.8
Rush D YPG: 115.2
Scoring D: 16.5
So taking out the games that these defenses have played against the best offense in college football this year (LSU); the defenses that LSU has faced are very close numerically to Alabama's defense, even Ole Miss. W/o the LSU game both Arkansas and Auburn have better pass defenses, and Mizzou has a better rush defense. I think the difference in points has a lot to due with turnovers forced.

I agree. Our DL can be the difference in this game. I was optimistic with what I saw against Auburn. We got on the line. Against Army, we were back to 1 yd off the ball. They got leverage on us and ran pretty effectively.
There's a reason for that - Army is moving from a triple-option offense to, well, not a triple-option offense.
They don't throw the ball very well, at all. Therefore it made sense to play the run for most of the game.
While the 1-yard off the line "read and react" defense sucked earlier in the year, if there was one time it was appropriate was against Army.
And, for all practical purposes, it worked. They got 0 points - 0!
I, for one, am happy to see improvement in how the DL is handling the run - both against Auburn and Army. Both teams have potent run games, and did nothing against us.
Pete Jenkins is obviously having an impact. No, our DL isn't "elite" or even "average", but if they can be just "all right" against Bama's run and force Milroe to throw, I think that's our best chance to win.

Saban's MO is always the same regardless of the OC. Lots of play action. Lots of middle of the field crossing routes. Lbs and DBs just need to stay disciplined and Dline needs to have the game of their lives

This is what I love about this offense. Obviously, they have some great talent on offense, but there are so many things to defend against on any single play that it really stresses the D. Denbrock has been calling some nice plays that have multiple options. I don't know the answer to defending LSU's D other than having elite talent that plays at an elite level.

Score more points. That is how you defeat every team. Doesn't matter how.
