Not really. To make CFP you gotta go 12-0, and when you have to play Bama every year, it’s just damn hard. It’s only been 12 teams once. But every other season is beat Bama and go undefeated.

There are many more than "just a few" with multiple appearances. LSU is the only one that hasn't lost a CFP game, so there's at least that.

LSU is right where most people outside of Louisiana would expect them.

Schools with the most CFP appearances from NCAA.com

Alabama 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023
Clemson 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2024
Ohio State 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024
Georgia 2017, 2021, 2022, 2024
Oklahoma 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019
Michigan 2021, 2022, 2023
Notre Dame 2018, 2020, 2024

Bottom line is we have the potential with our talent most every year.
Or at least for the last 25 years minus 22-23 as our cupboard was bare bones.

We need someone who can maintain a high level program.

Because that’s what we have the ability to be, a high level program every year.

Honestly think this mentality is what holds LSU back a lot. It's like New Orleans - But Mardi Gras is the best week ever! Doesn't excuse the city being a shithole the rest of the year.

Horrible analogy. Unless you feel the rest of the country minus Bama and Ohio State should feel like they are completely unsuccessful programs. We have the 6th highest winning percentage since 03. 2 of those teams are Oklahoma and Boise State who I’d easily take our success over there’s in said timespan.

LSU football mirrors the state and I'm totally fine with it.

We'll fool nobody into thinking we're the best, but when we're good we're really really good.

And at the same time our fans (residents) will bitch and moan how we should be better, all while never leaving and telling everyone how great we are.

It's the perfect fit and I'd have it no other way even if it's enraging at times.

This is what I’ve been saying. We won’t even make the 12 team playoff again. We are not a top 10 program in college football. When’s the last time we would’ve? 2019? Maybe 2023?

This makes lsu an average/mediocre team in our conference. The majority of the last 3 decades we have been average. Blame it on the bama dynasty or whatever you want, but average 3-4 losses a year is average in the modern football landscape

Winning the championships are nice, but being relevant all year long (à la Ohio state 2003-2023 - in it until the end every year but only 1 title during that timeframe) is way more fun as a fan. Championships are great but once you win them the season is over either way. When you suck by October every year though, the season becomes less enjoyable

Over time people just remember W/L record and outcome. But to not take schedule and opponents into account is asinine to me. LSU is not mediocre because we play 7 ranked teams a year usually and go 4-3 or 3-4. Whereas so many teams play 1 or 2. How does that not matter?

I’ll take a step further and say that outside of 2019, a large portion of our year-to-year success (or lack thereof) is directly related to the schedule.

LSU this year choked because our schedule was fairly average..but not easy. If you switch LSU and Virginia’s schedule, LSU is where Virginia is and Virginia might not make a bowl.

Disagree about the schedule being average this year. FPI has LSU’s schedule to-date as the 10th hardest in the country, and we still have the #4 and #12 teams in the country left on the schedule.. both road games. LSU has had a very difficult schedule this year, contrary to the narrative going into the season. 5 of our 12 opponents are currently ranked in the top 25, with 3 in the top 10.

Also you don’t have to look at the ACC to see the impact of scheduling.. you can see it in our own backyard. How about Ole Miss? Ole Miss has played 2 opponents currently ranked in the top 25. Their remaining opponents are an FCS team with a losing record and 2 SEC teams who are combined 3-7 in conference play. They have the second-weakest SOS to-date in the conference, which will almost certainly be the weakest by the time the season ends (for the second year in a row).

People don’t pay nearly enough attention to schedules in college football.

From 2009-present, LSU has finished with a losing record in SEC play once (2021). They’ve finished .500 or worse 3 times. In 16 seasons. LSU has been far from “mediocre” in our conference. They’ve been as good (or better than) anyone not named Alabama or Georgia.

We haven’t reached the elite level of those schools, but we haven’t been “average” or “mediocre” either.

Only making the CFP once for a program like LSU is extremely mediocre

Thank God we won it all then

Y’all need to reevaluate what the word mediocre means.

Only 21 teams have ever even made the CFP. Before last year it was 15.

I agree for a 12 team playoff, LSU should be in it every year moving forward - even next year.

LSU being 1 of 21 teams to ever make the CFP is not mediocre.

Bama, Clemson, Ohio St, UGA making it 4+ times is elite. Just because LSU hasn’t been elite, doesn’t make them mediocre
