"Funny"? New Orleans was only spared because it gave up without a fight. Baton Rouge and Alexandria held out and were completely leveled. The folks associated with the Pineville and (later) Baton Rouge campuses of LSU had good reason not to like the types who burn down cities (as Sherman himself did elsewhere).

Those are good points but, and you do kind of allude to it, Sherman wasn't involved in the fights in Louisiana if my admittedly rusty memory serves. He was actually a tremendous benefactor of the state and tried to warn against secession.

New Orleans didn't exactly give up without a fight. I assume you are referring to it being occupied without much force and once occupied not really attempting to help liberate itself

An interesting link a came across LINK

It'd take about 5 minutes before someone tears that criminal's statue down. I'd do it myself.

Just because I am trying to educate, I am taking a poll here. Did you know that during the retreat at Pineville, the only things that survived did so because Sherman (who wasn't commanding or involved) asked Gen. Banks not to destroy the LSU building?

He has some pretty significant contributions to Louisiana and even while mortal enemies still had a soft spot for the state.

A RMJ statue outside the Box is a must.

CEBA has it's imaginative, thought provoking moniker because a small group was fighting to have it named for Sherman while it was being built.

Dunno, I graduated a long time ago, when I come in town, I rarely stray from tailgate spot to stadium and back. Just see a lot of CEBA references on here, and hear people at tailgate say they parked near CEBA.

But if it is bankrolled by the athletic department, it should be an athletics figure.

Now what was the scandal with Skip, that was swept under the rug?

That's the answer - LSU Army ROTC (Ole War Skule commissionee, Army, 1990, representin', yall) should get a Sherman Tank - and they can call it the Middleton-Sherman Tank.

Nobody who would do anything would care. If they did, how do you vandalize a tank? Paint it?
