I'm not really sure why that is a bad thing. You can hate on him for his perceived cruelty, but not for that.

Sherman helped save thousands of lives by ending the war earlier. General Sherman is among the greatest of all American heroes.

He has the moral high ground regarding the Civil War. Most all of Sherman's "atrocities" were fabricated by the South, because they were butthurt about getting their asses handed to them. Basically what he did was run people off their land, and burned it. This broke the supply advantage the South had maintained.

As we all know the CSA's hands were clean of any atrocities.

I've gone as far as calling Anniston Army Depot and the guys (LSU folks as well) who keep track of all that equipment that's out in front of the various American Legion/VFW/Army Reserve Centers/National Guard Armories/Army Museums, etc.....

Shermans aren't that easy to get hold of (for free)...there's a nice EZ-8 model with the 76mm gun and muzzle brake at Ft AP Hill....

one of the cadre members who served in the Iraq invasion found an intact Sherman in pretty good condition...it got shipped back and disappeared off of his radar....

Pretty sure Sherman and the Unionists were on the same side. No need to honor any traitors.

Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College had its origin in certain land grants made by the United States government in 1806, 1811, and 1827 for use as a seminary of learning. In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana near Pineville, Louisiana. The institution opened January 2, 1860, with Col. William Tecumseh Sherman as superintendent. The school closed June 30, 1861, because of the Civil War. It reopened on April 1, but was again closed on April 23, 1863, due to the invasion of the Red River Valley by the federal army.

The seminary reopened October 2, 1865, only to be burned October 15, 1869. On November 1, 1869, the institution resumed its exercises in Baton Rouge, where it has since remained. In 1870, the name of the institution was changed to Louisiana State University.
