Is the plan for him to be a 2 way?

I was of the assumption LSU was recruiting him as a pitcher only.

Based on what exactly? I’d really rather have Jones at 1B and Frey DH. Have Kling and two others with at least a little speed in the outfield.

P.O. right now I believe but he’s solid bat and strong outfielder. Kid can rake.

I've heard there have been two-way conversations with Jake Brown, but I hadn't heard that with Anderson.

In either case, I think they're here as pitchers first because that's where the greater need will be.

Is Jones fast enough to play in the outfield?

yea you got it opposite. frey is much better mover than jones. frey has already pretty much moved to right field.

on Jake Brown...i know they have talked to him, just like guidry last year, about possibility of being 2 way. i think he will be a pitcher first cause he is a complete badass but if we have lots of depth at pitcher and he is not needed, he can frickign rake and is very fast.

I'm pretty sure Milazzo and Travinski have another year of eligibility, but if they choose to not come back we're going to need Frey and Jones to log innings behind the plate.

Jones is athletic for his size but I have a hard time believing he is a future OF.

Frey has not looked good tracking balls in the OF either.

A guy like Stevenson prob transfers. Pearson potentially, too,

This conversation will boil down to the transfer portal come next year.

Not sure, but no one has mentioned Ashton Larson or Derrick Mitchell yet either. And if Larson gets to campus he's going to push for playing time. Mitchell might as well.

Jay will go after an experienced OF, middle infielder, and plenty of pitching in the portal.

Kling is probably the only OF you can pretty much pencil in for next year.

Middle infield will be very unsettled.

Pitching depth for next year has already gotten ripped up.

I agree. I mentioned the 4 incoming recruits on the first page and highlighted I thought Larson and Mitchell had the most potential for PT right away.

I’m not saying that Jones is faster than Frey. I’m sure he would be better than Jones in the outfield, but is he fast enough to justify putting him out there? Honestly, I don’t know. I’m not a fan of putting bigger guys out there, unless they can absolutely rake.

He's fast enough. He's not played OF much in his career. He's been a pitcher, catcher, and corner infielder before this year.

A season of playing OF in the Northwoods League should have him plenty prepared for regular playing time in the outfield next year.

Frey just gives off big time Aaron Judge vibes. Don't take that the wrong way people, he is not close nor am I saying he ever will be close to Aaron Judge. Simply talking body type and playing style can be similar.

Exactly. If Jones was a corner outfielder, he’d be playing LF this year, and Tre’ would have stayed at 1B.

It’s been said by Jay Johnson that he sees Jones as a future corner outfielder. Ben McDonald has spoken about it on the TV broadcast

Frey is one of the better athletes on the field so look for him to play outfield. Jones stays at 1B. More than likely we bring in another middle infielder and catcher from the portal for depth.
