It should be Perkins and Whit.

Didn't Zy go down with an ACL tear like halfway through the season?

I wouldn't expect him back anytime near the start of the season huh?

Whit and west will still play plenty

Baker has already said that they will play a lot of 4 linebackers.

It’s day 1. This means nothing. Is Zy not practicing?

Zy was at practice. He is almost to where he needs to be with the knee according to Kelly.

Those two are considered “WLB” in baker’s scheme while Penn is considered more of the “MLB” in the scheme meaning he likes one really fast athletic LB like Perk and one who is more traditional sideline to sideline make a tackle good against the run type of Linebacker

Cleared medically, just ramping him back into playing speed I believe.

Penn is a solid player, Whit will still play plenty

Some of you attack the completely wrong players on here

I've always felt like Sage was too stiff and didn't have the footwork skills to be an everyday corner, but what do I know.

He did play ok at corner last year, but his neck and hips definitely seem stiff for a corner.

Overall I'm not too mad with this line up on day 1. These are the guys coaches are familiar with and have the experience. Baker and Kelly are going to make guys go out there and earn their spot over this group. Some guys behind this group are more talented, but they shouldn't just be handed a spot on day 1. Make them take a spot. I feel pretty good about the backend depth on this team. Just need some major strides from the DL.

I personally don't think we will get the improved Dline, and we will get gashed at times, however, I do think the secondary will be a good bit better than last year.

I'm not attacking Penn at all. Weeks is the better player IMO.

Weeks is listed at 6'2 228lbs and Penn at 6'2 234lbs. They are basically the same size but Weeks is more athletic.

Would be smart to go to more of a 3-4 with the current depth at DT and the quality of our LBs

I think people need to temper expectations on Zy. Hunt was at practice and said he has a huge knee brace on and didn’t do any drills

Even once he's cleared, it normally takes guys MONTHS, if not a year, to be fully what they were pre-injury. There's the mental aspect to it that people don't take into account, about trusting that the knee is going to be fine when you start going hard. It just takes time.

Nah, he has been medically cleared. It will take time for him to get used to moving full speed again, but he will start games for us at CB

I’m hoping Baker can coach Penn up. He would make a play here or there in that clown show defense we had last year. He can only get better and at least Speights isn’t out there filling the wrong gap every play.

It’s only the first day so not going to panick on Sage starting. I’ve never seen him show the speed to play in an SEC secondary at CB or S. A young guy will step up imo.
