You are a bitter, bitter old man. What makes you that way?

Did your momma pull her teat away from you too soon?

Maybe he just wants to coach? Doubt he “needs” the money. Some guys just don’t know how to live life after doing something their entire adult life.

My feelings exactly. Take a risk on a younger guy. They at least have some chance of finding a long time head coach.
I really appreciate all PM did for us and wish him the best. As someone his age I have no idea where he will find the energy and drive this job will require.

What a really strange hire. Good for Paul if Tanner gave him a fat contract but Paul looks like one of those old guards who can’t handle the NIL/Portal Era.

I guess they need to write a new golf course into his contract.

This is what I thought too. I guess they are throwing an obnoxious amount of money at him.

So he turned down Miami, but wants the SC job? That seems odd. I respect him as a man, but I'm not gonna pull for him in the SEC. Nothing personal, coach.

Not as much as you hang out in the Rougarou's dugout...

Is this a smoke screen? It makes absolutely no sense.

I could argue this era benefits an older coach who wasn't the most enthusiastic recruiter. Your roster is year to year now. Success is primarily based on college scouting and NIL deals. No more kissing the arse of an 8th grader and hoping to get him on campus five years down the road.

I'm guessing that's the approach they'll take. Load up the support staff, pass the hat around for NIL off of new hire buzz, and let the old vet push the buttons at practice and on game day.

It's still shocking. Paul leaves the LSU night games early because it's “past his bedtime.”

Prediction: this is similar to the Pat Kelly to LSU crap

Agents use retired coaches as smoke screens because they have less to lose.

My guess is their fan base expects a coach soon due to portal, so this buys time — maybe for someone still in the tourney like Sully who has been linked to other jobs on the last handful of years and clearly has shown he will leave Florida for the right circumstance

A current LSU assistant coach’s name has been rumored to be joining Mainieri’s staff, so no, it’s not a smokescreen.
