this dawned on me with Georgia playing in the Assembly Center tonight.

For those of you who don't know or don't remember in 1985 Georgia was playing LSU in the Assembly Center on the TVS game of the week.

Game was hard fought and with one second left trying to take the lead Georgia knocked the ball out of bounds under their own basket. LSU 58-57 :01 left. In bound the ball, game over.

Unfortunately John Williams, who other than this lapse had a great career, treated the in bound pass like a punter trying to kick deep and run out the clock. He inexplicably threw the ball the length of the court and out of bounds without the ball touching anyone or thing. Georgia then got the ball and Melvin Howard hit Cedric Henderson for a 10 foot catch and release. Of course he made it and Georgia won, 59-58.

I also sat in the student section back then. I remember during the women's game, which preceded the men's game, Williams would walk into the PMAC and go past the student section on his way to the locker room. A lot of women fans would stand and try to get his attention as he walked by. He definitely had some L.A. swagger.

Oh, I remember. He was as if he was thinking, "One second? It will take them ten minutes to retrieve this thing."

I was 12 and still remember screaming at the screen when he threw the ball down the court.

But I did like watching him play. CJ was my all time favorite back then. Williams was up there.

I was there in the student section. I remember it being a very cold saturday too. There was sleet on the ramps heading up to the Assembly Center. Such an empty feeling leaving that game and heading out into that cold day. uggh. Thanks for the memories. lol.;edit: and yes I'm old.

I was there and recall Georgia’s inbound pass getting tipped. Many thought the time should have run out before GA got the shot off.

I was there. Thought it was Nikita Wilson who threw the ball in. But my memory may not be right.

The loss put LSU at 7-5 in the SEC. Won our last 6 SEC games to win the SEC outright (lost two made for NBC TV OOC games, North Carolina and Syracuse).

Going into regular season finale, LSU was 12-5 tied with Georgia. LSU beat Kentucky 67-61 and Georgia lost to Tennessee, 89-88 for LSU to win the SEC outright.

Unfortunately this was year 4 of losing our one SEC Tournament game and one NIT/NCAA (that year) game. Very frustrating period.

I was at the game; I remember Dale Brown grabbing the ref as the ref was running off, and Dale was sliding across the floor,

The above-mentioned game was actually on Saturday, February 2. I don't think the OP meant to imply that today was the anniversary of that game....just that it happened 34 years ago.
