quote:

The other defensive coordinator sounded less optimistic. “I thought we did things the right way,” he says. “We probably tried to tweak things a little too much. We were doubling Chase and bracketing Edwards-Helaire with our linebackers and playing that into spy on Burrow. But the game just goes a little too fast. There were a few times early we kinda stopped the play but it still turned into a plus-30 because Joe just did something.

“What would I do differently? Just not play ’em.”

You missed the best quote in that article.

Alright, man. I can see you're very upset by this. I'll stop. We just disagree. He'll be in the NFL for a long time. If that's not the definition of elite, and instead it's based on draft position or recruiting ranking or whatever, then I guess I'm in the wrong here.

I still dont buy these things being real, what coaches would go on record bashing other players even if it's somewhat anonymous?

IMO they just make this shite up and post it to get clicks.

quote:

The Jefferson kid is talented. I don’t think he’s elite, but when he becomes the third ‘thing’ that you’re talking about. He becomes a really good third thing. That’s where Oklahoma got some really bad matchups. He’s an NFL wide receiver — he’s not an ‘Oh my God!’ guy, but when you spend your game-plan worrying about other people, that’s when he becomes so effective. And that’s what Moss and Marshall are too. They’re talented players, don’t get me wrong. They’re not elite difference-makers, but they’re such an afterthought in the game plan because of how much time the other pieces take, they can get going, too. That, to me, is LSU in a nutshell.”

The first guy took the "not elite" quote completely out of context. The guy literally said he'll be an NFL WR but he's not quite as good as his numbers indicate because he's taken advantage of the other weapons we have on offense. Who would disagree with that?

The article was probably 70% positive, but the OP picked out the 30% negative. Nothing wrong with that, just pointing it out.

There were plenty of compliments. One coach even said something to the effect of , “don’t play them,” when asked what would you do differently.

Some of that I actually agree with. The Fulton thing is just silly though, he’s a consensus 1st rounder for a reason

Exactly, Fulton has never not graded out as an elite player the last two seasons lol

It's somewhat circular logic. Jefferson was by far the leading receiver on the team last year. You could argue he was the focus at least early in the season, giving other guys more opportunities.

Based on the overall offensive performance between last year and this year, Jefferson's performance this year is the least surprising.

makes you wonder what they think of their own players with that kind of criticism...

I have come to the conclusion that this "anonymous coach" quote stuff is complete BS. I don't believe any of it. They me talking to some low level GA, etc....But no real coaches. Because its anonymous they don't have to prove any of it.

I would say that Jefferson’s hands, route running and ball skills are elite. He has good speed, size and strength.

quote:

The Jefferson kid is talented. I don’t think he’s elite
He's elite for college. He will be a WR2 in the league, so it just depends on your grading scale.
quote:

Stingley is gonna be a great cornerback, but I think any wide receiver that is not afraid to use their hands can get him
Basically true. I've been saying it all year - Stingley has technique problems that need to be fixed in the offseason. I don't understand the "hands" comment, because that's where Stingley excels. I think he needs to trust his backpedal more.
quote:

Fulton) is just average. He is overly aggressive. I think (Clemson WR Tee) Higgins can get him
Fulton is way above average The other points are correct. Fulton DOES rely a ton on contact that could be considered illegal, and Tee Higgins CAN "get him" because Higgins can beat anybody.
quote:

Delpit is a great player if you just let him play centerfield. He struggles in coverage and is horrible in open-field tackling.

I think Delpit covers exceptionally well. But he DOES struggle in open field tackling.
quote:

safety Jacoby Stephens, a 6-3, 225-pound hybrid. “He’s the one guy who is out of position,” said one of the running backs coaches. “He needs to be a linebacker. He’s heavy-legged. We thought we could attack him. He’s a liability in coverage. He’s not a DB. He’s really stiff.
100% correct. Stevens will never survive at the next level as a DB. Fortunately he won't be asked to. And he's a great box player.

Was this quote before or after the OU game? If after, these are simply the words of incompetence.

Jefferson has shown all the skills of an elite WR this year

No he hasn't. Jefferson is an excellent receiver. He is clearly not as good as Chase. Chase is elite. Jefferson is very good. There's a difference.

You realize that anonymous and going on record are mutually exclusive?
