The Jefferson kid is talented. I don’t think he’s elite, but when he becomes the third ‘thing’ that you’re talking about. He becomes a really good third thing. That’s where Oklahoma got some really bad matchups. He’s an NFL wide receiver — he’s not an ‘Oh my God!’ guy, but when you spend your game-plan worrying about other people, that’s when he becomes so effective. And that’s what Moss and Marshall are too. They’re talented players, don’t get me wrong. They’re not elite difference-makers, but they’re such an afterthought in the game plan because of how much time the other pieces take, they can get going, too. That, to me, is LSU in a nutshell.”

thats an incredibly compliment to this offense...and its on point

That's a pretty good synopsis.

Jefferson isn't elite?? His play and stats say otherwise. Not one team has shut him down. Hell, they couldn't shut him down last year when our offense was mediocre and the other WRs were almost non-factors.

McShay also has him going 15th overall in his last mock, which I suppose is about where non-elite receivers typically go.

Jefferson is an elite college WR. Probably not an elite NFL WR. But we will see what kind of numbers he puts up at the combine/pro day.

Where’s the salt in this article?

I’m seeing single player evaluations with half of them being right.

The other half are just wrong. Why does it mean they are “salty”?

I'm not saying the assessment on Stevens is right or wrong, but heavy-leggedness speaks more to quickness than speed.

I got you. I was referring more to the “....he is a liability in coverage” part of the statement. He was with an All American 3o-40 yards down the field.

However, we agree on what you said re: Quickness vs straight line speed.

I agree with you. Most of the coaches I’ve known wouldn’t talk bad about another coach, knowing it might come back to bite them. With a few exceptions, it is like a brotherhood, knowing they don’t have a lot of job security. Even if some reporter told them it would be kept anonymous, why should they trust them? Seems like a good way for a reporter to write a provocative article with some made up quotes to get some clicks. I’ve never even heard the Athletic.

One of those won the Thorpe award.

One of those will win a Thorpe award.

One of those put up better numbers than the Biletnikoff winner.

One of those has one of the best thrown on % in the fricking country.

With the emergence of Ja’Marr Chase, people have forgotten about Jefferson. When UGA and OU started bracketing Chase and CEH, Jefferson took advantage. It’s gone back and forth all year since teams can’t take both Chase and Jefferson away.

Also, Jefferson is 3rd in the country in receptions and yards, and T-1 with Chase with 18 TD’s.

I don’t know how you don’t call the guy elite. He’s one of the top 3 receivers in CFB with Chase and Lamb.

It does sound like Kirby (if it is a head coach).

Gus might say something like that, but our game was pretty close, so I doubt he would say it this year.

With talent evaluation like that. No wonder they will be watching the game from home.

I know these kinds of things come out preseason, does anyone have a link to what was said about LSU coming into the season so we can laugh at the foolishness?
