True, but that doesn't mean that he didn't struggle at the end of the ear. His ERA in his last 6 appearances last year were:

54.00
54.00
0.00
16.20
27.00
1.69

he started really well last year and then it all kind of fell apart

He had a great start against Arkansas in Omaha, lets not forget that

He very much relies on being able to get ahead with offspeed pitches. When he is not throwing them for a strike then his fastball gets much more hittable.

Not making it 2 innings isn't ideal.

Just gotta hope he improves over hte course of the season

His breakout pace was never sustainable due to his stuff. But he’s also had some poor batted ball luck at the end of last year in some of his final outings. Who he is is likely in the middle of both extremes.

Too early to worry but damn I hoped to see at least one dominant outing from an LSU pitcher

I’d say Cooper Moore on Saturday was pretty dominant.

He's just frustrated he does not have Arkansas on the schedule this year. He owned them last year, especially when it mattered most. He'll be fine, Jay will piece together this puzzle.

Gavin Guidry and Cooper Moore haven’t been dominant enough for you?

That’s funny because the best hitting lineup last year (Arkansas) couldn’t hit Cowans so called “beachballs”.

Guidry has faced 14 hitters, struck out 10 of them, walked no one, and has given up 1 hit

Cooper Moore threw 6 innings, gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 11

We have six pitchers who haven’t given up a run yet

Guidry has struck out 10 of 14 batters and allowed one single base runner in 4.1 innings.

Ricken was perfect for 3 innings.

Rizy allowed 1 base runner in 2.2 and struckout 4.

Sheerin has faced 4 batters and struck out all 4 of them.

Moore struck out 11 in 6 innings.

Dathe only allowed really anything because Jake Brown lost a ball in the sun.

We've had some dominant guys mixed in with a couple of bad outings.

I can’t speak for today because I was a little late and missed the first inning.

But, from last year, Cowan is pitcher that throws a lot of strikes, and pitches well from ahead in the count. Generally speaking he hits his spots, gets ahead in the count and he can make people chase by nipping at the edges of the strike zone.

Last year for a portion of the season it appeared to my untrained eye, that he had trouble hitting his spots, lost a little control. As a result he wasn’t able to get ahead in counts.

He was good early last year. Outside of that, he struggled badly down the stretch. Two rough outings to start the year and everyone hides behind ‘it’s early.’ He’s simply not that strong of a pitcher, and he’ll get passed by guys with better stuff.
