This is really stupid. How about Seminoles, Tar Heels, Volunteers and Sooners?

It's still a directional school and always has been.
It's a fricking Junior College in Southwest Louisiana! (I love the food at Deano's right down the street from their little Junior College stadium)

I’m the same way. I have no hatred towards any school in Louisiana. That’s what happens when they have no team that can consistently compete with LSU in this state. As long as they’re not playing LSU I’ll root for them.

It’s said they wanted to become more nationally recognized and not be viewed as a regional university. However, they keep their sub-regional mascot name of Ragin Cajuns. You know Ragin is not even a real word, it should be Raging Cajuns. They were at one time called the Bulldogs, so they should have gone back to that when they went from USL to UL. They are dumb and have an inferiority complex. I liked them when they were the Southwestern Louisiana Institute because it sounded like a mental institution and that was a perfect fit.
what are you 16 years old? This has to be one of the dumbest post I have ever read on this board

I just wish ULM would call themselves Louisiana too because they legit have 1000% just as much of a right to the name.

It should be UNL & USL. Plain and simple. Sounds way better and represents each university better.

Regardless of what Lafayette goes by, it’s pathetic and insecure that LSU fans even care. LSU is a powerhouse in athletics in the SEC while Lafayette is trying to be consistently relevant in the sunbelt. They are in no way a conflict of interest what so ever.

It reminds me of Texas State and A&M/UT in Texas. If you’re an alum of the Sun belt school for some reason people make you feel bad for rooting for the SEC team still. It’s dumb

It’s not even located in SWLA. That would be McNeese.

My diploma has USL my father’s SLI. Who knows before.
Wow going from being known as Southwestern Louisiana Institute to just University of Louisiana is quite a transformation when it comes to national recognition.

That’s pretty hilarious I only ever knew it as ULL, but SLI is infinitely more insulting it seems. Sounds like a regional community college and yet now as UL it sounds like a flagship university. Good job on the school using branding to make themselves seem relevant, gotta say

I believe you’re correct. However, UL-L is particularly known for its very good Nursing & Architecture programs. Not Agriculture & Veterinary. LSU’s Vet program is VASTLY better

Try not to be that guy, then double down, triple down on a statement that simply is not true and stupid

Lafayette is a tremendous city, smart people, diverse and extremely productive. A fun city a great place to live and offers small town living with big city attractions, easy to get around, surrounded with small cities.

UL is a fine institution, not every high school graduate can afford to move to another city and get a higher education and universities like USL-McNeese-ULM give people the opportunity to achieve and contribute to society.

Know many UL graduates that are Doctor's, Dentist, Attorneys, CPA's, Pharmacist, Businessmen that are extremely successful.

Many pull for UL and hold season tickets to LSU Tiger sporting events

My understanding is the official institutions’ name is The University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The marketing department, right after the name change, created the brand “Louisiana’s Ragin Cajuns” for their sports enterprises. There were no legally binding objections to this trademark. The lines get a little blurry sometimes when referencing the sports programs, but it’s trademarked and used by the University when referencing the schools sports enterprises. Smart play by their marketing department.

I believe you are correct.
