In his first season? There is no argument, he absolutely does.

As the Ole Miss team last season, Lane's 6th year there? Yes, he arguable will. Only time will tell if that gels in season 1, though.

I don’t think there is an argument that Ole Miss has a more talented roster this season, but talent isn’t everything, so that doesn’t necessarily mean that LSU will be better than Ole Miss.

Other than the QB and RB who stayed at Ole Miss the other top players are at LSU now.

This is his most talented roster ever in his career. He had some talent at USC, but not like this.

However, it's a whole new system on offense with a ton of new players. They have to gel and play well within his system.

There are some thin spots on defense too, but I think we can overcome with some really strong position groups masking deficiencies and the continuity of having Blake Baker back will help a lot.

I think it comes down to the OL and DL.

QB - Even, LSU's room is better.
RB - Best RB is at Ole Miss, Collection of talent LSU
WR - Even, we need to see some guys produce
DB - LSU
LB - LSU

If the guys we brought in can actually gel on the Oline we have a chance to be very very good offensively.

On the DL the youngsters look pretty good, but can you count on young DT's? Umanmielen, is the best talent and if he can find games to take over it should free up others.

yes, if this roster was in year 2 of 3 of the system we wouldn’t even be questioning it.

we have 2 things going against us:

Cohesion - hard to build this without reps and it’s a very new offense scheme and roster wise

Leavitt’s injury holding him out of spring. (really a sub issue of the cohesion part)

What?

I had to read it 3 times too. He's saying an argument cannot be made that Ole Miss is more talented than LSU. Wording is weird.

Yeah, as big of studs as they were in high school and how well Geralds played in the spring, a lot of LSU fans on here are putting way too much faith into Geralds, Anderson, and Brown just coming in and, if not dominating, being able to give 1st/2nd team reps. They may, but that’s a big assumption for 1 freshman DL, much less 3.

Most people were rightly concerned with Reliford’s injury. But I think it’s even bigger than most think. Not just because I think he may have been our best overall 3-down DE, but the trickle down effect on our depth. And I read a lot of “Well, Brown will be here in the summer/fall, we’ll be fine.”

Again, we may be, but I have no idea what Brown’s gonna be able to do at DE, or even if he’s in good enough shape to play there. So we’re counting on a freshman who played mostly OL last year in high school, and even though he was the #1 ranked recruit, has never gone against college OL to immediately be in 2-deep rotation and providing those reps, a highly touted and physically talented guy from Tennessee who hasn’t put it all together in college in 2 years, and a proven guy who was probably the best pass rusher in the SEC last year to be our top 3 DEs.

But, God forbid, Prince gets hurt. Or Brown needs a year to adjust. Then, what I would have said was a big position of strength before Reliford got hurt, is all of a sudden a weakness. I like Carpenter and Cobbins as completely complementary pieces, 3rd team guys who can come in for specific plays or a couple of drives a game to spell the starters. If we get into a position where we’re counting on them to give us 1st/2nd team reps, that’s not ideal.

We’re gonna need some good injury luck along the DL and at CB to be who we think we could wind up being towards the end of the season. But so does just about every team at various positions.

Even if talent was equal, facilities are better here, traditional is better. Everything is better.

So basically we have the talent to win it all but how well will the players gel and buy into the scheme?
