Intrigued to see how our guys fare facing marceaux, labas, and hill. And yeah, dugas is always one of my favorites. Think we need him to be one of the best teams

I remember back in the day in my first calculus class doing max min problems. The initial angle that produces the longest distance is 45 degrees. But those problems never took into account drag and ball spin which obviously play a huge role.

I thought Drew Bianco transferred or was cut. Guess I read wrong a while back.

He had entered his name in the transfer portal but never actually transferred out.

Problem ...CPM usually has 1 stud pitcher and Vandy/Florida have 3-4 stud pitchers. This year we have 2 stud pitchers because of everyone being back from Covid. Florida and Vandy will have 4-5 stud arms. CPM was saved by Covid last year. Same result we'll get smoked in super regional or early Omaha.

Vandy convinced a kid to graduate HS early and enroll because they weren’t sure of their third starter.

Florida legitimately has 5 high level weekend starters.

This is critical of Dugas, not the poster. What you meant was, “Dugas did, dumb shite.” There is a world of difference with that comma.

Why criticize Dugas for some dumb shite the poster did?

Dugas is a player that regular fans probably won’t ever appreciate. High OPS but low batting average doesn’t make a fan favorite around here.

He hasn't done either, unless you're counting an extremely small sample size from last year.

Believe me, I'm a fan of the kid. I talked him up a ton his freshman year because of what potential I thought he had, and I still think he has it. But, we haven't seen him really produce on any consistent level yet. Last year it looked like he might be coming around, and then the season was over.

In college, though, I'm definitely looking for higher averages. This isn't professional baseball, and we're not playing money ball. With the amount of games LSU plays against "cupcakes" out of conference, you should expect any kind of a good hitter to hit around .300, if they do so-so in conference. I want to see him hit SEC pitching. With his speed and power combo, if he can make any kind of consistent solid contact in league play, he won't just have a high OPS. It'll be through the clouds, with the extra bases.

He's saying that what the poster said appears critical of Dugas, and not the other poster, because of how it was worded, particularly without the comma.

I read it the way you did, too, at first.

He’s been the most successful coach at LSU in recent history(besides maybe Breaux) and you think COVID saved him? That’s easy to say when the season wasn’t played. Some of the other top teams in the conference had as many or close to the same amount of losses as LSU when the season was stopped.

Some of you still haven’t figured out that this isn’t the 90’s anymore. Not only are there other great baseball programs, but more skilled players in general. LSU can’t and isn’t supposed to get them all. Time to wake up. There’s a lot of good baseball out there besides LSU. You obviously don’t realize this, but it’s actually not a bad thing to get “smoked” in Omaha. Only 8 teams make it there. I’m not saying we should be happy with losing or getting embarrassed by somebody, but that ending your season in Omaha is a successful one.

His freshman year was also a small sample size due to injury.

I'm just choosing to go with the more recent sample, which was also how he performed this summer after the season was banged.

I think he can hit for a average, but he's not a contact hitter. He takes a lot of walks, gets hit a lot, and when he makes contact, it's loud. He could afford to cut down on the strikeouts, but he'll be fine hitting .280 and making a big impact with XBHs.

The reason I said he won't be a fan favorite is because so many fans only look at batting average when OPS is much more correlated with scoring runs.

People are (rightfully) pointing to last years performance at the plate in pre-conference and inferring that it would have only gotten worse once conference play started. Not exactly a bad assumption.

Mainieri's teams always do better late than early. But it's telling that as of right now we've got 3 freshmen and a similarly inexperienced player in Arnold in the starting line up, with another freshman (Drost) knocking on the door. And that's without a ton of roster turnover on the hitting side.

I don't necessarily agree that COVID saved him, but there is a pretty compelling argument to be made.

You are missing the point, which is that the poster posted,

"Dugas did dumb shite."

What he meant to post was,

"Dugas did, dumb shite."

There is a world of difference between those two.
