Why are y’all saying you can’t win titles and host regionals?

Obviously I’m not willing to trade national titles but why can’t it be reasonable to expect “the Powerhouse” to be a top 16 team every year while competing for a national title every so often?

It's not impossible but also not realistic. In the NIL/Portal era, no one else has won multiple national titles. And I don't believe any program has hosted a regional every year in that time frame. This isn't the 90s where you can expect that or even expect to host as a 2 seed like we did several times.

Why not something like Florida?
a team and coach who has pissed away more talent besides Paul tenure? Ironic that Sully only title is against Paul.

LSU should be:

1. Top 16 (host) every year.
2. Top 8 (national seed) every other year.

This, imo, equates to making Omaha every other year, and a national title every 5 or so years.

This is the standard. Of course you will fall short, but that's why you have a high standard.

Years like this are wholly unacceptable. Everyone knows that.

In the last 5 years, the time frame we're talking about under Jay, Florida has gone

Regional (lost home regional)
CWS
CWS (one of the last teams in the field, got hot)
Regional (did not host)
TBD

LSU has gone

Regional (did not host)
National Champ
Regional (did not host)
National Champ
TBD (most likely missing tournament)

Which one of those would you pick?

If we extended this all the way back to 2010 like you did, it wouldlook much the same. kudos for cutting it off the year after LSU won a national title in 2009. Sully has been there since 2008 so not sure why you chose 2010

This is why I keep telling yall it’s a “you” problem.

This is unobtainable expectations and you guys are setting it as the floor because you also expect multiple titles in a 5-7 year span.

Did you read the part of my post about falling short?

I guarantee you Jay and everyone in the program has a similar standard. If you have such a standard, you're more likely to hit close to it than have years like this and 2024.

That doesn’t make it any less dumb. You hope for greatness, you don’t expect it.

Again, you hope for greatness. Expecting it is asinine. “Top 16 every year and top 8 every other year” is not achievable.

You’re right Beth gets enough heat here, some warranted some ridiculous but the coaching job she’s done this year has been good. After Tennessee swept I thought this was over again. They did the opposite, buckled up and went on run improving on all parts of the game. Softball if you get 2 aces you got a chance. When Heavener arrived (she’s good) she was the #1 pitcher in the country- she’s great but not elite. Beth has done a nice job this year and now has to go on the road in the Super against the best. If LSU doesn’t win this series against #1 Bama it shouldn’t diminish the job she’s done.’

Top 5 team in the SEC hosts every year. Top 7 more than likely. Yes I would think that LSU should be hosting more often than not.

Same here - I believe in high expectations and so IMHO do all great programs in all sports IMHO.

Good point. Some here think it’s too unrealistic to expect LSU to be top 7 in SEC every year

Good post. I’d personally put this at ~4.5/10 though

This is the key word. “Every” year from now into perpetuity is unrealistic. Especially with the additions of Texas and OU and the schedules being unbalanced. And just the nature of baseball and how injuries can affect a season. If you can’t see a world where we get the better teams in the league and on the road, where we lose our best starting pitcher and our best position player, and we finish below, say:

Texas
Georgia
Tennessee
Florida
Arkansas
State
Vandy

Then you’re not living in the real world in 2026.

Yes. 2 out of 5 years hosting a regional is disgraceful. If LSU doesn’t host next year it will start getting real concerning

Even better, some suggest 14th in the SEC is fine in perpetuity because of the 2 nattys.

Agree, and if we don’t make the 64 it’s time to move on.

No need to lie. You can’t link a single post saying anything of the sort.

What has been said is one (1 as in singular) missed postseason following a title isn’t the end of the world.

They weren’t alive to see Skip’s last great team in 2000.

I was and I remember a team that lost their first mid-week game of the year to McNeese, got swept by Houston in week 3 at the Box, and lost 2 of 3 in the SEC opener to then putrid UGA team for a 13 - 8 start to the season. This was on the heels of getting run out of the park in the '99 Super Regional at Bama. I remember radio callers melting down that "the game has passed Skip by and it's time to hang up the cleats". Memory among many today is Skip never lost a game after 1991.

Now granted, that 2000 team turned the corner and we all know how it ended but my point is all programs face rough times, many panic and later wind up looking foolish.

Time will tell with Jay but I'm confident he will get us back on track. As others have pointed out, the ability to build and sustain a roster has never been harder than in the NIL/Portal era.
