It’s also a recruiting tool. Guidry was pitching in high school 13 months ago and closed the national championship game on Monday. You think Johnson isn’t going to tell that to croots? “That’s you. Come and play now and win championships.”

That would be like stealing a base when you're winning by double digits. Only Florida does that.

Tre Morgan tagging up from second, Jobert pimping his HR, and Crews flat out hustling to get Tommy Tanks a share of the RBI lead all fall into this. Bringing Skenes in for a pitch so he can get a standing ovation would’ve been next level and I would’ve been fine with it except I thought Guidry deserved his moment too. The fact that LSU was able to win the final series without Skenes crossing the chalk makes this team all the more impressive.

Everyone knows Skenes is bad arse. He gets lots of praise, and he deserves it.

But think about how this moment could possibly boost Guidry.
Might elevate him coming into next season. Whether he pitches or plays short.

They should have brought him out there to throw one lob pitch as a ball, then taken him out for his curtain call.

To what purpose? And what if he goes out there an hurts himself trying to get a meaningless out. Seriously, if the game was on the line, sure, but it was not even close, do not risk it for his future.

The Rant is going to go down swinging when it comes to telling Johnson how to handle his pitchers.

Did you listen to JJ's postgame regarding this. He would of gone in if it was a 5 run or less lead and we was never going to start bc he said he was slated to go maybe 30 pitches and when he would of got pulled it would of emotionally lifted Florida so he was going to use him possibly as a closer if the situation dictated and thank goodness we didn't have to see him. It's more impressive to say we won the series without him.

NOT bringing in Skenes was such an alpha move. Almost more demoralizing to Florida and the pitching staff haters to show we didn’t even need him

Think how pissed off we would be if a team did that to us. This isn't gymnastics; it's real-man baseball. We don't need to be attention-whoring.

I personally wouldn't give a shite, and don't give a shite what Florida thinks of it.

I don't even know how to reply to this nonsense.

Man, imagine the shite show had Skenes come in for one out in a blow out win and injured his arm.

Just enjoy the fact that he gave us 2 incredible CWS starts and we put such a beat down on Florida that we didn’t even need to use Skenes

Jay managed that game and that situation perfectly. If Florida had kept the game at 6-2 going into the bottom of the 7th and then scratched across that 1 run in the 7th, then Skenes 100% comes in there to shut them down the last two innings.

I’m glad JJ allowed Guidry to finish them off-looking forward to next season

By not throwing Skenes and sticking with Thompson through final game, Jay sent message to recruits that he has the players' backs.

The final game really could not have gone any better from a recruiting standpoint: national title, highest tv ratings, protected player's future millions, and kept struggling player's back who delivered in title game.

No, Jay made the right call not bringing Skenes in.
I wasn’t worried about him coming in and injuring his arm throwing 5, maybe 6 pitches. I was more concerned with him ending up on the bottom of that dog pile and getting injured in that way.
I’m glad that he wasn’t on the mound at the end and thankful that no injuries have been announced.

It was kind of a flex to be able to say we have the goat pitcher but we don't even need him to kick your arse.

I was hoping JJ would call time for a pitching change, bring him out for a "thank you" from the fans, and then make another change for another pitcher immediately... May have been too cute, and Florida would have been pissed, but

No. The genius move was having Skenes scare Florida by existing. It was a Charlie Wholestaff situation, so it was credible. He did have, probably, 30 pitches in him.

The 3 sent out did a great job, combined. Hurd was outstanding.
