Shocking how few fans attended Skip's service

There were probably 200-300 people in the stands. I was very disappointed. I thought it would be thousands. More "fans" than that will probably be b!tching on here after the 1st loss of the season.
The floor seats were mostly full, though, with players, coaches, etc.

They had some bad thunderstorms roll through right about the time people would have been driving there.

Im sure most people have plans to be in Baton Rouge next week. Making back to back trips doesnt seem logical for some.

It’s essentially a wake. You can call it “a celebration of life”, but it’s really a wake.
And while we all root on our heroes, most of us don’t really know them, certainly not well enough to go to a wake.
I love my family members, but when I go to a wake, it’s out of love, respect, but also obligation for their friends and loved ones. I don’t really want to go to a wake so I only go if I truly knew that person and/or his family and friends.
I’m sure a lot of people feel the same way.

I thought the same thing the moment I saw the stands. It was very disappointing, however, they did this on a Tuesday evening when people are working and dealing with getting kids ready for bedtime. Why not on a Saturday? It's August, you can't tell me LSU was using the PMAC this past Saturday.

True, it was shockingly poorly attended. I drove in for it and didn't arrive until almost 7 and was worried about getting a seat only to find there were about 200-300 other than the guests on the floor. However, since it was broadcast on SECN, no one from New Orleans wanted to come with but everyone I know who is a dedicated fan was watching. There were terrible thunderstorms right before it started, school just started and it was 7pm on a Tuesday night. The only thing that was disappointing to me was that other than the special guests on the floor, I didn't see even one LSU student in attendance. There were high school kids with their parents, but seemed to be zero actual LSU students, many of which could have walked to the PMAC from campus. Everyone has busy lives, I just figured a couple of students would have wanted to honor Skip and see so many LSU Legends speak/honor Skip.
The in-person attendance did not in any way detract from it being an amazing event to honor the life of Skip Bertman. I'm glad I made the trip.

Have you been to a funeral or memorial service lately? From my experience attendance at those events is markedly down since pre-COVID. Sadly, society today is selfish. Few people are active in their religion. Of those which were present at Skip's service, it was likely most were present out of fandom. The times they are a changing.

When I first saw the stands, that was my first impression as well. When you really think about it, Bertman has been out of circulation for quite a while now.

Skip was Jewish so wasn't it a Shiva? Or a Levayah?
