"I told the people at LSU I'm not writing you guys a check if guys aren't going to commit to us for 2-3 years," O'Neal said on a recent episode of The Big Podcast With Shaq.

"NIL, I think, is definitely gonna hurt people," he said on the podcast. "For people that have nothing, when you get something, it takes the pressure off. But that something should be the final prize. The final prize should be the NBA.”

"Guys are bouncing around just for the bag," he lamented, suggesting that this new culture of opportunistic transfers is making it harder for high school athletes to break into the college ranks.

"I feel sorry for them."

I won’t donate to a collective for the same reasons.

I’ll follow players social accounts (on mute) so they can increase their ability to make their own money but I’m not donating $1 to a collective until this shite gets under control.

Don't blame him. Something will need to be done to the system because this is just the start and that's scary

Then you don’t really get to complain when LSU falls behind. Point blank. You either play the game as it is or get left behind while everyone else loads up through the system we’ve got—not the one we wish we had.

Sitting on the sidelines talking about how it “should” be while refusing to support the collective is exactly how you end up watching Bama, Texas, and others stack rosters while we fade. This isn’t about liking the system—it’s about competing in it.

Change will come eventually, but until then, either help LSU stay in the fight or step aside for the ones who will. You don’t get to gripe about outcomes if you’re not willing to do your part.

It’s hard to stay invested in college football anymore the way things are. “The love of the game is gone” and it reflects brightly.

College athletics is madness now. At least pro has contracts and some leagues have salary caps. Not suggesting what the solution is, but these are wild times.

Didn't Tenn's QB receive a ridiculous amount to go there. Reported 8 million? Out of High School. And now he holds out for more, because he feels the market has reset? No loyalty to them for rewarding him and taking such a risk on him out of High School.

It's crazy to me.

I assume he's talking about all sports, not just basketball (the great pic of him on the sideline waving Emery into the end zone against Bama) He's right. NIL is chaos. The winners are going to be those who find a way between the old way of recruiting (see Dabo at Clemson though he might adapt and have success again) and the coaches who think they can just hire a bunch of mercs like Jimbo (RIP frick you) and Lane Kiffin.

That word is meaningless these days.

it’ll be great if all the top programs and donors rise up and follow suit

unfortunately i think there are some who are going to continue to spend wildly just for the sake of calling themselves champions

Let me agree with you and be a bit pedantic at the same time.

It's time immemorial.

Here we got Shaquille Oneil, undoubtedly the most capable and likely person to move the needle for LSU in this regard, and you completely read through the fact that his point is that this game does not lead to “loading up” as his complaint is they will not stay with no guarantees on their end.

All nuance of the discussion is very clearly lost on you. It’s sad that you think you had a point here.

EVERYTHING they touch they destroy. They will destroy college sports too. Already have really. He is 100% correct. The people that gave money to this clown at Tenn....to gain his experience....they won't give again. The people with big money usually aren't dumb people...I was as passionate a college fan as there is...but fk em...hope it all burns down. Give them an inch, they take a mile. Now they want equal profit sharing....you can't make this up. Meanwhile some of the brightest students who will go on to do great things in life, inventing life changing procedures, etc...just get room and board....but a guy who was born an athletic freak with a 50 IQ gets millions for, in many cases, absolutely nothing. Kid from Michigan that was going to LSU...he has not proven anything. Can he be great? Sure. Like shaq said though, giving them this money lowers that drive to be the best. They have destroyed it.

bullshite. Last I checked the schools did this shite all on their own. They didn't ask the important people their opinion. Those important people you ask? The fans these schools are begging for money. You say we can't complain about results. I say we can since we are the ones that have been footing the bill the entire time. Because we choose not to give MORE is irrelevant. A ticket and some concessions is all they'll get from me. As it was for decades, that should more than enough compensation for me to complain about results.
