No. CLM’s biggest sin is not adjusting to the game when he needed to.
Perhaps but very few coaches do that, especially if they have had great success. If Saban doesn't come back to the SEC, Miles legacy, record are very different even with his offense. Eventually it would have caught up with him though
quote:
Miles finally has some offense at Kansas. He opened things up and went with a far more dynamic approach.
I haven't watched, i knew there was no way he could go 2 tights I formation with Kansas talent He's also playing Big 12 D's. How much impact did 2009 or the 2013 UGA game affect him i guess we will never know.
quote:
If he’d done that at LSU in 2014, he’s probably still the head coach with another NC or two to show for it.
He's probably still coaching but I don't think he anything close to a true NC team after 2012. Maybe 2013 because of the skill players on offense but that D was not as good. Aside from the head to head losses, the biggest negative impact of Saban at Alabama was the recruiting. Again a lot of people savaged Miles but Saban is relentless and the by far the best recruiter ever.

He's an a-hole. He was an a-hole here and he's an a-hole at Bama.

He had a hip replacement in the off-season, that's a big ask to rehab that and be 100% feeling good at his age and particularly doing what he does. A lot different than a late 60's retiree that can gingerly rehab and has a lot less of an agenda to take care of every single day. I think this is an underrated factor to what we are seeing with him, and I do agree he is different this year.

And before you Gumps start with the jealously bullshite let me cede to you that he’s the greatest college coach of all time. That being said I’ve never seen a more miserable, pissed off, unhappy human being my life! What is his fricking problem?
Behind the scenes, he's probably better. He still doesn't seem warm and cuddly, but that's just his personality. He's a guy that's never satisfied - maybe that's what makes him great.
I think if he was the miserable guy this board thinks he is, former players (now rich in the NFL with nothing to lose) would be blasting him. But we don't hear any of that. That's telling.

He had just finished watching Joe Burrow 29 TD’s...He worried AF

I always thought when Saban recruiting classes don't rank #1 for two years he will retire, he is feeling it.

He’s always been an obsessed, bitter and
antisocial frick.
antisocial frick.

Ultimately I don’t even think he “cares” as much about winning as just getting everyone to do their job perfectly because we’ll that’s how he was raised. You do something, you do it perfectly and as hard and successfully as you can. Then all the winning just comes from that. That’s probably where it all comes from.
I watched that too, and I’m sure that’s part of it. But even after victories the man NEVER looks happy. I’ve seen people going to prison look happier than he does holding the National Championship trophy.

really long for the day people get sick of coaching and playing for him.
Why do you think Matt Maulk refused to return for his senior season???

I met him on a couple of occasions when he was at LSU, one time being in his presence for an hour or so. He can be not an a-hole when he needs to be, but it's an effort for him. Couple of canned jokes and a fake grin. I'm an introvert and I know another introvert when I see one. He's an introvert in a job that requires extroversuon. I'd be miserable too.

The last Saturday in the south showed a lot about his upbringing. His dad demanded the same perfection and hard work from him that he demands from his programs. The parallel was uncanny. I suggest you give that episode a watch. The older I get the more I really hear those deep life lessons my dad instilled in my at a young age start to come out as I mature. He also lost his father right when his coaching career started so that has probably strengthened his resolve on these things as well. Ultimately I don’t even think he “cares” as much about winning as just getting everyone to do their job perfectly because we’ll that’s how he was raised. It really was interesting to understand him as well as his desire to be far away from that life (coal mining) as possible. It certainly does not lessen the resentment from LSU fans' perspective beginning with the time he left Miami.
quote:This, plus the desire for perfection from himself and everyone around him? Tough life. He seemed, in that interview, to be genuinely enjoying the discussion about his father and his coming up, despite how hard it was. He smiled when he was a kid!

He has no problem. He is a great football coach who does not excel in the social graces. He is what he is; there is no sickness.
