The over just hit in the Tennessee game with 2 outs in the bottom of the third.

Jeff Head is far worse than just a bad strike zone

You are right that the number of 'tough' ball/strike calls in a game is probably 50 to 75.

Believe me, I'm not defending Jeff Head and I've made fun of his calls in the past. I think he knows the rules as well as anyone, but his pitch calling is not the best. I was just surprised that only 8 were challenged, he got 3 of them right, and the 5 he missed were all within a ball width of the zone.

At one point it was Ole Miss 0-1, Mizzou 6-6 on challenges.

I’m curious as to if this was due to the strategy of each coach. Ole Miss being very cautious vs Mizzou trusting the players

I’m not so sure that’s a good ratio. There is way more than meets the eye here.

I found this graphic, not sure how accurate it is. He was basically as good as the worst MLB umps, which I feel like is pretty good for a college umpire.

It was pretty much all Mizzous catcher. It seemed like he was given the green light.

There is a post game video with Kerrick Jackson where he explained the strategy, and basically the hitters weren’t really allowed to challenge. I saw it on Twitter, very good explanation of how they strategized it and practiced it last week. I just don’t remember who tweeted it.

So far out of 20 challenges 18 were by catcher and 2 by batters and zero for pitchers so it looks like all of the teams so far have the same strategy.

I think they measure the players heights for the system pregame.

Tenn vs. SC game. Most of the challenges were upheld. HP Ump doing a bang up job back there.
