how many times can you challenge?

You get 3 in regular play but keep the challenge if you win and get 1 per inning in extra innings if you are out but they don't rollover.

So basically you can challenge as much as you want unless you get 3 wrong? Then you are out of challenges the rest of the game unless game goes into extra innings?

Correct. Only catchers, pitchers and the batter can initiate a challenge.

I would love to see new metrics like Runs Saved/Earned, SO and BOB saved/earned from results of ABS challenges.
So many "what could have been" situations like called 3rd strikes that end innings.

7/9 overturns in game 1 lmao these umpires are horrendous.

It's like Jumanji, you have 3 lives. As long as you don't lose all 3 you get to keep playing.

I mean if you watched a lot of LSU baseball this year, you could've have guessed this.
What Ive noticed from this first game is the strike zone is a lot bigger than what they have been calling. This ABS system should help our pitchers tonight.

At one point Missouri won 5 challenges in a row.

I haven’t been able to watch, but I’m curious to see how the zone differs from what they tell umpires. The ABS zone starts at 23% of the batter’s standing height and ends at 58% of the batter’s standing height. Obviously that’s not how it’s written in the rulebook.

This is going to be a shitshow in college IMO. The umpires are much worse than the MLB

Missouri won. It made a difference.

And it actually seemed to be a pretty well called game relative to what we've seen.

I've thought for the past several years that the SEC umps have called an extremely tight zone. It tends to widen in the postseason.

They're still awful.

For anyone who knows, how do the levels of an umpire stack?
Is it viewed as more of an achievement to be an SEC ump, or low A ball? Where would being an SEC umpire fall? I can’t imagine it’s viewed as better than AAA or AA.

I think the issue was they were being graded on trackman for their zone, but what trackman was reading as the zone didn't line up with the zone in the rule book.

I used to work with a college umpire, he never did any SEC games though. From what he told me it takes a lot to get into the minors, and you have to kind of decide early if that's the route you want. Because it's the track to the majors.
So there is some combo of guys not being good enough and guys just deciding that's the level they want.
That's me relaying a conversation from a decade ago about one guy's experience, so take it with a grain of salt.
