SEC no longer tied to the Independence Bowl thru 2025

A C-USA team (UTSA or UAB) will be selected to play BYU in 2021.
However, BYU is 10-2 and ranked #12 in AP Poll. I think BYU still has an outside shot to get in to the Fiesta/Peach Bowl. What happens if BYU isn't available for the indy bowl? Do they get to pick from the pool?
The only chance LSU has to go to the independence bowl is if BYU makes a NY6 bowl. (12/5 Update: this seems very unlikely after yesterday's games.)
(EDIT to explain the bowl tie-ins)
It changes every year. This was a great deal between ESPN, the Independence Bowl, & 2 independent schools (BYU/Army) to keep the bowl game alive.
2021: BYU vs C-USA
2022: Army vs AAC
2023: BYU vs Pac12
2024: Army vs Pac12
2025: BYU vs C-USA

Going to Shreveport in late December should be reserved for those convicted of felonies.

Well it would be a blast if it was actually happening. Would have more in attendance than the A&M game

Look for some back room dealing to get Tigers in Shreveport. Indy would love LSU

I believe this was the last bowl LSU went too and beat Michigan state before they fired Dinardo and hired Saban, the guy they beat in the Independence Bowl. That lead so a 19 year run that finished with 2019 LSU tigers and three national titles. Its karma baby.

I wish Independence Bowl would happen. It's the same day as the basketball game in Bossier City.

LSU beat Clemson in the Peach Bowl the year after beating Michigan State in the Indy, I think.
I also think they returned to the Indy after the Peach and beat Notre Dame but I could be wrong.

That Indy win against Mich St was Dinardo’s first. He won a Peach and another Indy before it went south.

The wheels did come off afterwards.
Morris Watts left as OC and Bob McConnell replaced him.
Carl Reese left as DC and Lou Tepper arrived.
DiNardo began hanging out more at his restaurant.
Players began getting kicked off for agent contact, grades, arrests.
It came apart.

**NEWSFLASH** SEC is no longer tied to the independence bowl thru 2025.
But there are 13 SEC bowl eligible teams and only 11 tie ins. So someone is going to a bowl that's not a conference tie in.
Which I guess why the independence bowl can't be ruled out.

There are a lot of facts in this statement but the statement is not exactly right.
Dinardo went to 3 bowl games, two of them were the Independence Bowl. 95 & 97
The 95 game was the beat down of Saban and Sparty (45-26), the 97 game was a pay back game vs Notre Dame after they came into Tiger Stadium and beat LSU.
It would also be 2 more years before Dinardo was fired.
Good times

I would have to think the INdependence Bowl would be much better than the Birmingham Bowl that SI has us predicted to attend.

If BYU doesn't get selected for a NY6 bowl, then it can be ruled out. 100% chance C-USA will have a team in the independence bowl.

Man I was 11 & 13 years old for those 2 Indy bowls. Since then I’ve been to several games and bowl games. Those 2 games to me were the best times at LSU games I can remember. Rushed the field with my dad for the pay back game. Good times

I hope it’s the Birmingham Bowl since I’m in the vicinity and will Geaux!
