I just don't see how this is going to work with 16 teams. I understand this is how Greg Sankey wants to move the conference. But I just do not see how this is going to work with still only a 12 game regular season.
9 game SEC schedule with 3 permanent opponents. You will play the entire SEC home and away in 4 years. Overall schedules will be harder and more balanced than they are now.

Round robin 15 game SEC schedule.
I know you're joking, but this was my first thought as to why it would make no sense to get rid of the divisions. We can't do round robin with all the teams that are already in this league, plus Texas and Oklahoma. So what would it solve?

It’s not one division, it’s no divisions.

Funny how the rules start to change as soon as Alabama starts to falter and show signs of decay

2 highest ranked teams play for championship. Makes sense
Really? You want Reece Davis types deciding who plays?

If it is 3 permanent opponents and 6 other games. Essentially that is the equivalent to a pod schedule they are just lumping all together for Championship game
seeding.
seeding.

Bama plays Uk, Vandy, UT, A&M, Mizz, and SC every year.

Do you have an issue with the rankings right now? I would not have an argument for LSU if UGA/Tenn were playing each other in the SEC CG instead of LSU.
& I wouldn’t really care bc we would be in the 12 team playoff

Wouldn’t it be nice if they had just left well enough alone circa 2011

Call me a skeptic or pessimist, but the SEC could really play games with scheduling using this arrangement. I wonder how Alabama will fare once the conference starts working with new schedules and permanent games...

Smart, that way they can massage Alabama's schedule as teams get better and worse to give them the best path forward.

That doesn't seem exactly workable when every team's "setup" is interdependent on every other team's setup.
Custom in the sense that they can be different. Not that they can get what they want. It has to be within the constraint of 3 permanent opponents for every team. They can also be the same with that constraint. The minimum you can have is 4 different sets (i.e. the 4 pods)

I’m not sure if I like this.

I say we do like the Premier league and relegate the lowest 4 schools every year that way 4&8 can still play for something past September

I think with a 12 team playoff you are going to eventually see conference championship games go by the wayside
As long as they make money, and why wouldn't these make money, they will be around.

Depends.
Is the Bama alum that was in charge of "bridge scheduling" going to be in charge of this too?
If so, we have our answer already.

It’s a flawed approach. What if we had not played Tennessee and 2nd place tied records at 7-1 SEC? How do you settle, common opponents, schedule strength, rankings? No answer will be as good as head to head or division record.
There are tie-breakers today, and there will be tie-breakers tomorrow. They will come up with something. E.g: Record against common opponents and probably others.

Adding Texass and OU is gonna bring many more dollars to each SEC school. Adding those two was a genius move.
