It’s a pretty low bar at LSU considering our AD is usually subpar.

Nope. I wasn't nearly as hard on MM as most folks here, total rebuild from scratch ish. I know we're in a different era but still takes a little time. I'm hopeful that MM is the guy but if he's not I trust SW to handle it.

But SW still has to actually execute that job (and another major natty) to be considered GOAT AD.

He’s done good things, but idk why fans prop these guys up. He should be very good at his job being at a university like LSU and the money he makes.

Ah he is good but he got rid of a good mens basketball coach for no reason to land a coach that i duno if he can even coach or get his team motivated to play the sport.

To some he never will be because of Wade. Renovate the PMAC and win a football national championship, a baseball national championship, and he will be on a list of greatest AD’s anywhere.

By definition, don't you have to be talented to be "a name"?

And Bill Arnsparger had two Super Bowl rings and three years experience as an NFL head coach. He was a pretty "big name" in 1984. I loved what Brodhead did and he as a damn good AD, but you cant downplay what Woodward has done just because the great coaches he has hired are "a name".

I will never forget watching the special on ESPN I believe it was that highlighted Joe Dean, and how successful he was at running one of the most profitable athletic departments in the country.

Not that being profitable is by any means a negative, but in light of the Curley Hallman hire, and the dark days surrounding LSU back in those days, profitability was registering a little low on the radar.

LSU is clearly never more profitable than right now, and that just goes to prove that success is much more profitable than squeezing that penny real real tight. Keeping that in mind, I think that Scott will go down as one of, if not the very best AD this institution has ever had. He understands what builds real and lasting profitability.

Joe Dean delivered:

4 NCAA Directors Cup Top Ten Finishes
5 Baseball NCs
22 Track NCs
Hired Nick Saban

His 27 combined NCs are an SEC record for an AD.

From a pure Big Time standpoint, Bertnman's 2 football NCs as AD is hard to argue with. Football is King.

Every success under Dean was achieved in spite of him and he didn’t hire Saban

One glaring weakness that he has yet to address is Softball. Just like Nikki Fargas had really been given wayyyyyyy too long to find success, Beth Torina has outlived her value to the program.

The softball people will crucify you but you are absolutely SPOT ON and every stat, angle or record shows it’s true.
