re: Scott Woodward wouldn’t be making a mistake if he bought out McMahon this year

I think Matt wants to do well I just don’t think he’s capable and has too much pride to realize the Southern Conference is his top end. He doesn’t have the hunger or fight for the SEC

McMahon is in over his head. It. Won’t. Work. When you think the successful coaches in the league like:
People get this. They aren't going to eat 16mil or whatever it is on a basketball coach. This isn't a bo pelini situation.

The length of his contract is what's ridiculous. I understand throwing incentives in, but don't handcuff LSU to an 8 year marriage before he has proven he is worthy of
I will never understand this. I honestly didn't realize he got an 8 year contract. That is ridiculous.

So content with 3 SEC wins a year and an empty PMAC for the next 3 seasons?

WASTE.OF.TIME.
That’s all the Matt McMahon era at LSU will be. The only question is how long LSU fans will have to endure it (and how many will be left once they do?)?
He’s hopelessly overmatched and the future looks even more bleaker than the present. McMahon has managed to totally destroy all sense of excitement and interest built up over the last 5 years and crash the program back to the level of apathy In Jones’s final season. The ONLY silver lining in that season is we knew LSU was going to make a coaching change. Here, there is no hope for even THAT for the next 2-3 years at least.

If it’s still dragging on like this by the end of year 3, they won’t have a choice but to cut bait if there isn’t dramatic improvement.
Year one has been a complete disaster top to bottom. I get he walked into a touch situation and had to scratch together the roster but the roster itself isn’t 2-14 SEC level bad. They were picked to finish middle of the pack for a reason. The team currently is poorly coached in every area and there has been zero development as the season has gone along anywhere. Most of the losses are all blowouts which they aren’t competitive
They lose KJ next year. If they don’t do well in the portal, it’s going to get just as nasty next season if not more so. It’s hard to have hope when there are no stud recruits on the way and this season is likely leaving a bad taste to future prospects

Nah. Scott fricked this one up and he needs to own it
Think he’ll throw in some of his own money for this one? Or still play monopoly with other people’s money?

Fat Money Bags should have to pay the buy out out of his own salary

I think the earliest it could happen is 2024 when the new tv money hits from the ESPN contract. I think it’s a substantial increase maybe in the $25-$35 million range.
I also think Woodward is gonna lose a lot of credibility here.

Any coach can recruit here with enough NIL money behind the program

It’s not 8 years. It only converts to 8 years if certain sanctions are handed down.

I think that happens next year. Things either markedly improve or MM is gone. I am uncertain how that improvement will come about unless there is some serious positive portal activity in the next few months.

MM isn’t good enough to get boosters to give him money.

Even if he hated Wade, Woodward should have stuck with him solely on the basis of "I don't have a replacement plan or a candidate that's worth a shite."
McMahon was a quick-fix hire and it is showing.
Agreeing with OP on this, just own up Woody and maybe you can win the basketball heads at LSU back.
