I have faith in Woodward being visionary. Why rush your NIL for this recruiting cycle with a wholesale change of the Football program. Long term and doing it right may take some extra time to setup for the next recruiting cycle being the best.

I think what he is saying is that a great coaching staff doesn't mean a thing if you don't have your NIL shite together. I can agree with that.

Have net read through all these comments…but wouldn’t it make sense to decrease the TAF fee, create an LLC that normal fans can donate $50-$X amount per year, then that money be used to attract and pay players via NIL?

I know you’re TAF employees won’t like the idea. But TAF could be remain em tact for building improvements, organization of various ents etc

The problem is that the NIL organization cannot be associated with TAF. So who is going to tell all of these “normal fans” to donate to this LLC? Maybe I’m wrong, but it doesn’t feel like much of a stretch to assume that the vast majority of TAF small donors are just trying to get their priority points. I doubt TAF can (legally) award priority points based on donations to an NIL organization.

The same can be said for season tickets with associated TAF contributions. If TAF drops the fee by $50, what’s stopping individuals from simply paying $50 less for their seat and calling it a day?

Small money donors who actually want to donate, say, $50-100 per year to an NIL fund will find a way to do so regardless of the TAF fees - as long as such an organization exists and is seen as legitimate (meaning not a scam).

Where TAF can impact this kind of thing is with the big money donors who are actually donating to TAF, rather than paying a fee. If Mr. Rich Alum wants to donate $10k to TAF for some project, maybe TAF (behind closed doors) suggests that they donate $5k to the project and $5k to the separate NIL fund.

I'm pretty sure that Scott Woodward, TAF, etc can't do anything with NIL because the represent the school. Local business leaders will need to organize. They can go to the school for guidance on what to not do and what will violate eligibility, but the school can't be involved directly.

TAMU isn't giving any money to kids. People with money that want to see the TAMU football team win are giving money to kids.

Unfortunately, this is why I don’t think LSU will be able to lock down the state, guys are selling out for an extra 10k or so and go out of state. LSU won’t be able to shuck out the volumes of money annually like the Texas schools.

No need to shite on Orgeron anymore. We do have a natty from two years ago that we can rub in this pain a little bit. Texas A&M has spent all this money and hasn’t sniffed a natty yet we have won three in the last 18 years.

You don’t know shite. You are just sour that we lost a few recruits today and are ignoring the fact that the current coaching staff was put together within the last two months starting at the top down while the ONLY teams ahead of us in overall recruiting (counting portal players) all kept their staffs almost 100% complete this year.

LSU will be fine and will continue to be in the top 10 in recruiting every year. Some classes will be better than others, but we will still be in the top 10. If you are in the top 10 in recruiting, you can win a championship.

My thought is that Scott’s pretty chummy with Emmert. If he’s paused or taken a step back, it’s with good reason. I trust our relationship with the NCAA thanks to our current and former leaders and where they were and are now.

We can’t throw millions but we may not have to. Structural change and regulation are not subjects that LSU was alone in pointing out a need for in this cycle. My guess is we’ll see some substantive changes and adapt once we’ve seen the new landscape looks like in comparison to the old (current) one.

If not, we will be a step beneath the Texas schools and Alabama until Saban’s gone. Perhaps UGA for Kirby’s stay as well.

So will Woodward be a visionary genius when this NIL scramble turns into utter chaos as kids use NIL and transfer portal to get a better deal every year from a new school/team ?

This is just the beginning of it, imagine 2000 Caleb Williams/Spencer Rattler scenarios

You REALLY don't know how the NIL stuff works, do you?

If you did, your take wouldn't be so lame on so many fronts.

It feels like a brave new world, and LSU isn't prepared for it and probably doesn't have the resources and organizational talent to compete in it.

Used to it? I've spent many years in this state and followed this state's sports teams for a long time. The last thing I would ever expect to see would be intelligent, expertly-informed and proactive leadership that gets ahead of the curve and out-smarts and out-hustles the competition.

This.

The problem was LSU underestimating other schools pushing NIL. They, like many LSU fans really bought into “LSU recruits itself” narrative with NIL on this recruiting cycle. It’s a different world now. BK and staff did a great job working the portal and HS recruits. They won’t underestimate NIL this year.

LSU itself cannot be involved in this.

LSU needs one of its big lawyer alumns and financial advisor alumns to put together the collective and organize it. The AD and TAF can’t actually do it.

The biggest hurdle is a lot of donor money is tied up in O and his cronies buyouts. Something like 17 million give or take
