They also play in the Pac12, not the SEC

It's not necessarily, but there would be tradeoffs in the SEC

Texas A&M and Clemson are good TOP/Defense case studies
Texas A&M is

#2 in TOP and #37 in Scoring #27 in total Defense #105 in YPP.

Sure th TOP definitely helps a their Defense because opposing teams just have so many less plays to score on them. But they still can’t stop people when they do have the ball so they still give up 22 points a game and they are 6-4. They give up almost 100 more yards in losses but only average 2 more plays per loss.

So TOP is definitely masking a bad defense.
However they only score 24 PPG in conference. Their defensenisnt good enough to make up for their lack of production on offense because you don’t need 10 drives to score enough to beat them.

On the flip side

Clemson is #101 in TOP and #1 in scoring
They play around 10 more snaps on average than Texas A&M. How are they so good?
6th in 3rd Down Conversion

Basically they get themselves off the field.

There's some truth to that. We need an offense that is effective, but also can control the game and clock. Saban is the master of this.

Big 12 air-raid offenses score too fast and leave their defenses out to dry.

Certainly there's some middle ground between what LSU is doing now and an air raid offense, correct?

high powered offense would have our defense on the field too much

If there were only a proven method of this going on right now that people could point to as an indicator that it could work. Hmmmm....that would make this argument so much easier.

Nope. Not sure how more possessions on defense improves them.

So, scoring more points wouldnt help the defense?

Seriously?

I can understand the thought process. The control-the-clock style offense does help the defense out with limiting the number of plays, however, if you run out to a 28 point lead, you can rest your starters which would nullify the ill-effects of the increased number of plays.

I would love to see an innovative OC while maintaining our defensive standard.

Guys, of course a Mike Leach / Dave Aranda or K Briles \ Aranda combo wouldn't work. I mean we'd be up by so many points after the 1st quarter, that we'd have to watch the damn 2nd and 3rd stringers in the 2nd half Who in the hell wants that

The thought of that is so stupid.

What is the difference with the offense going 3 and out and putting the defense right back on the field?

I know you understand that, and it wasn't the point you were making. I just like to point out, every once in a while, that LSU can have an explosive offense without it being a Big12 air raid. Others don't seem to understand that.

Also, Washington State has a greater Time of Possession per game than we do. They are ranked 14th nationally and we are ranked 30th. The hold the ball for 32:46 per game, we hold it for 31:34 per game.

The huge difference is that they do in that 32:46 and what we do in our 31:34.

Washington State:
Total Offense: 18th (470 ypg)
Yards per play: 36th (6.23 ypp)
Scoring: 17th (37.6 ppg)
1st downs: 9th (25.3/g)

LSU:
Total Offense: 104th (362 ypg)
Yards per play: 108th (5.14 ypp)
Scoring: 86th (26.7 ppg)
1st downs: 86th (20.1/g)

Here's Houston for fun:
Total Offense: 2nd (546 ypg)
Yards per play: 8th (7.05 ypp)
Scoring: 4th (47.8 ppg)
1st downs: 4th (26.4/g)

FWIW, Houston is last nationally in TOP at 24:38.

but most fans on here keep acting like we need to have an air raid offense. All this offense really needs is some olinemen and wr's....with bamas oline and wr's (even without tua) our offense would be top 30

Not one person is saying that. If they are, I haven't seen it.

do you people believe he's incapable of adjusting his offense and would run it EXACTLY the same here?

They are so dumb. Yeah Leach wouldn’t run the ball with John Emery

I’m amazed how dumb he is if he doesn’t think a Mike Leach led offense coupled with a Dave Aranda led defense wouldn’t be successful. Especially with the talent, resources, and facilities that LSU and Louisiana possesses. Does anyone agree with this guy?! Wtf is he smoking

I think a Dan Enos offense is the happy medium
