I got a good laugh out of this

By Erik Evans Editor in Chief

The annual Whining of the Tigahs is almost upon us, where every adverse LSU play and inevitable loss shall be chalked up to a Trilateral Commission-level conspiracy involving Alabama, officiating, and league honchos in Birmingham.

quote:

Thus, #FreeDevinWhite was born — a preemptive gaslighting of America and preemptory begging for home calls. The rot is there, they say. There is clear evidence of bias, they claim. The SEC is totally in the tank, they cry.
And they may just be right.
But, the bias, such as it exists, is clearly in the other direction: It is LSU who receives favorable calls. It is the Baton Rouge faithful who can cheer the yellow hankies on the field. Because, the numbers don’t lie — LSU gets a lot more calls than Alabama and is flagged less than Alabama. And both effects are especially true in Death Valley.

the link is "Roll Bama Roll"? He'll fit right in at al.com or a Birmingham TV station.

Nah. They aren't scared. They are mocking LSU fans.

They know they cheat and they think it is hilarious. Cheating is just part of the fun for them.

I mean, the data are interesting, as on the surface, they don't really support a pro-Bama narrative. What they potentially hide is the timing and nature of the penalties. And they obviously don't say anything about missed calls.

That's a poor stat i keep hearing from rednecks in Alabama. Yes, if penalties are warranted then give them to us and other teams. What it really comes down to are missed calls and calls given in key, game shifting moments in favor of Alabama. I can guarantee you we will always get more penalty yards in favor of us because our home stadium is the louder than anyone else's in the country. They will definitely adversely affect the amount of false starts for opponents. Our stadium causes earth tremors because it's so loud.

Once it again, it's not about penalties CALLED against Bama, it's the penalties NOT called.

The penalties need to be broken down into 2 categories:
Objective: Offside, illegal formation, 12 men in the huddle etc.
Subjective: Pass interference, Holding, Targeting. etc.

Bama ALWAYS gets the benefit of the doubt on Subjective penalties.

It isn't even the amount of penalties called for or against them. It is the timeliness of the calls. In critical times in the game the refs don't make the calls against the Gumps. In return, in critical times of the game they always get the calls. Plus, we have the ultimate trump card in two situations. PP's clear interception that was reviewed and still called out despite still frame shots of a clear pick. And now the Mack Wilson and Devin White identical plays with completely different results. Add the picture of the three non-holding calls on Jalen Hurts TD run and the video of the ref moving the ball against Ole Piss and this goon can go STFU!

It's BS. LSU has been the most penalized team in the sec several times. Happened under Les and Saban.

Penalties need context.

- 10 penalties vs Akron
- 9 penalties vs ULL
- 11 penalties vs Vandy
- 8 penalties vs UT in a blowout win
- 1 penalty vs LSU
(All random teams/penalties, just proving a point here)

You are now averaging 7.8 penalties per game...

Also, a holding penalty on 1st and 10 isn't the same as a holding penalty on 3rd and 8.

You can't look at something like this from the high level view. You need to know situation, opponent, etc., In other words, use some common sense.

It's mostly about what is not called on Alabama.

You notice that Yahoo's like that never address the substance of the calls and the pattern.

In the last 8 games between the two teams LSU is averaging 5.4 penalties per game (enforced) for 41.6 ypg, while Bama has averaged 3.9 (enforced) for 30.6 ypg.

In the last 3 games in Tiger Stadium it's 4-30.3 LSU and 3.3-24.3 Bama.

So yeah, super favorable for LSU.

It's not just the penalties and non-penalties. It was PP7's interception being ruled incomplete, even after review.

In 2014, it was the pass Bama "completed" to get into FG range that wasn't reviewed at all.

It was a side judge checking the marker and moving his initial spot of the ball up for a 1st down against Ole Miss.

This crap goes way beyond simple comparisons of penalty numbers and yardage.
