don't understand why several of you raise this shite. It doesn't matter, if it was Texas A&M doing it whom we have beaten a similar number of times in a row. it would still be a violation. Just stick to the issue.

because even If it's a violation, which I doubt, it's trivial.

If they're paying players or fixing grades, that's a bigger deal (although that stuff goes on a lot of places now).

No, Pearl got busted down so hard because he lied it. It would have been a slap on the wrist otherwise. But I'm happy, he's at AU and not UT.

yeah doesn't sound like saban was spending that much money on it if the boat ran out of gas.

if had been an electric boat they could have used a Charger to fix it

I bet you go to sleep at night dreaming of saban retirement speech. Hire a competent coach and maybe yall might win one every four years.

Taking players on a boat ride is not violating NCAA rules, post like this make me second guess why I even read this garbage. Sound's like you are jealous.

Who the frick cares if a coach hosts BBQ and parties at his lakehouse for players?

It's not recruits and I'm positive it's being done by the books as part of approved team actives

Assuming it is a violation, why have rules against it if it is trivial. Somehow those who make NCAA rules would have believed it worthy of being forbidden.

Someone else said this but it is true:
Winners focus on winning and losers focus on winners. Why are we even discussing this?? It's pointless. Do you think Bama even knows what O is doing with his players? Or cares?? Do you care what Idaho State is doing with their players???

It sure seems like it may be a violation according to the NCAA manual:

16.02.3 Extra Benefit. [A] An extra benefit is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or representativeof the institution’s athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete family memberor friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Receipt of a benefit by student-athletes or their family members or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation if it is demonstrated that the same benefit isgenerally available to the institution’s students ortheir family members or friends or to a particular segment of the student body

Les use to have players over for food and shite, however, when Alabama does it, people here consider it a big deal.

Coaches can host players " occasionally" for meals The quetion is whether providing boat riding is a violation. The NCAA manual states any extra benefit allowed must be expressly stated in the manual or it is a violation.

It may actually be a violation since teh NCAA manual stipulates the players can only be hosted at the coach's home. Is this Saban's home or a separate lake house?

Here are the pertinent rules which would apply:

16.11 Benefits, Gifts and Services. [A]
16.11.1 Permissible. [A]
16.11.1.1 General Rule. [A] Receipt of a benefit (including otherwise prohibited extra benefits per Bylaw
16.11.2) by student-athletes, their family members or friends is not a violation of NCAA rules if it is demonstratedthat the same benefit is generally available to the institution’s students and their family members or
friends

16.11.1.5 Occasional Meals. [A] [b]A student-athlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional
meal
in the locale of the institution on infrequent and special occasions from an institutional staff member.
An institutional staff member may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend such meals.
A student-athlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional meal from a representative of athleticsinterests on infrequent and special occasions under the following conditions:
(a) The meal may only be provided in an individual’s home, on campus or at a facility that is regularly used
for home competition and may be catered

16.11.2 Nonpermissible. [A]
16.11.2.1 General Rule. [A] The student-athlete shall not receive any extra benefit. The term “extra benefit”
refers to any special arrangement by an institutional employee or representative of the institution’s athletics intereststo provide the student-athlete or his or her family members or friends with a benefit not expressly authorizedby NCAA legislation.
16AWARDS AND BENEFITS
212
16.11.2.2 Other Prohibited Benefits. [A] An institutional employee or representative of the institution’s
athletics interests may not provide a student-athlete with extra benefits or services, including, but not limited to:
[R] (Revised: 8/7/14)
(a) A loan of money;
(b) A guarantee of bond;
(c) An automobile or the use of an automobile;
(d) Transportation (e.g., a ride home with a coach), except as permitted in Bylaw 16.9.1, even if the studentathletereimburses the institution or the staff member for the appropriate amount of the gas or expense;

Yeah totally sure when he is recruiting he tells them, "Hey you can come and ride in my boat"

a benefit would be allowing them to take out the boat when they want. LSU players eat free at many places around BR, it is pretty well known and an extra benefit. I'm sure that happens around EVERY college campus as well.

That is is irrelevant, either it is a violation or not regardless of the other factors.

Whether LSU or any other team's players get extra benefits is also irrelevant. Multiple violations by other schools do not excuse violations by a specific school.

He’s been doing that for years. The NCAA definitely knows about it. He isn’t cheating, just deal with it. He’s the best coach in CFB and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

He does it as a get to know you type deal, he actually did it while at LSU as well. Same thing with having events at his house, I'm sure he was told if it was approved or not.

The OP is trying to make something out of nothing really, he is just looking for a reason to whine and cry.

Its permissible to host the players.

Was it at Saban's home or a lakefront boat house?

The boating may be a violation as a special benefit not expressly authorized by the NCAA, Were all Alabama sstudents invited or just the players?
