No. You do not bunt.

Sorry. That is not the right answer. And anybody with any up-to-date baseball knowledge will tell you that.

The only shitty part is he bunts him over and then the next hitters can not score him. We see it every game. They are bad situational hitters with poor plate awareness.

It doesn’t matter if it’s your best hitter. The flow of the game and where we are in the series needed to dictate that decision. In any other circumstance, you might not but that one surely dictated needing that runner on 3rd with 1 out. Heck, drag bunt him and give him the opportunity to beat it out. That pitcher is dealing and you are not getting many chances to score. The base hit percentages off of that guy, in that situation, was low. Thankfully we scored anyway.

No one with any modern, analytically inclined view of baseball would even consider bunting in this situation. There may be ample reasons to criticize PM at this point, but this isn’t one.

The correct answer is that late in the game when you have the tying run on 2B with 0 outs, you do whatever you have to do to get his arse over to 3B.

From there, he scores any number of ways - hit, SAC, FC, PB, WP, error.

Drag bunt Doughty? ??

If LSU was tied I’d agree with you but not down by one in the second to last inning. Sorry you are wrong.

Yeah, many old school guys will still disagree, but I don’t anymore

And given that college is not MLB, they may still have a slight argument

But with this team striking out at a record pace, no way one of your best contact guys is getting a bunt sign ever

So is the entire Chicago Cubs roster. It’s the way the game is played now.
