Granted Northwestern was a top 50 RPI school, but it amazes me that a mid week game late in the season can impact your RPI enough to move a team from 12 to 10.

Just at the right time as committee members are paying attention. If only we could have taken the series on OM or State, competing against them for seed.

People often confuse the RPI as being an impact of only what game did we just play. The RPI is a constant calculation of the whole schedule. That's why even when we don't play and others on our schedule (and their schedule) do play our RPI can change.

I thought the general consensus around here was that midweek games did not matter?

Imagine if we had beaten Tulane at least once.

I think they are pretty important for the pitching staff this time of year.

I mean... They matter a little bit, but not that much. Not enough to have a full-on rant meltdown every single time we lose one.

Just think about how our RPI will jump after we take a series from Florida.

It will probably go up just from playing them.

Yeah, just hoping for one win in that series, and anything else would be huge boost to end the regular season. As far as RPI, how can it not go up playing #1 team in a 3 game series? Any way it could go down?

They might not matter when you play Nichols, but it matters when you play ULL, Tulane, UNO, La Tech, Southeastern, Northwestern, who are all top 50 rpi teams.
They also matter b/c you should be trying to develop that 4th starter that you will more than likely need to win the SEC tourney, and also to get you out of a losers bracket if you find yourself in one in the tournament, not pitching johnny wholestaffs not giving a shite and letting people score 7+ runs on you every time.

The melt comes from getting shutout (McNeese), or scoring 1 run (Tulane twice, Notre Dame), with all of your starters in the lineup during a midweek game, where the other team is not throwing one of their 3 best pitchers usually.

If we get swept, I think we will drop a little.

NSU is sitting at 39 RPI this morning, and I think someone (Mainieri?) said they were sitting at 40 before the game. So, that is a quality win.

Breaking through top 10 RPI is good. We win the 1st one against Florida and we may just up to like 6 or 7.

Right and those melts aren't warranted. You know we beat Notre Dame, right?

We have the 8th ranked SOS according to the NCAA

That's impossible, because, you know, the baseball experts on there told all of us how soft our early season schedule was which would destroy our SOS and keep us from having a good RPI.

You do realize that all of the games count the same for the RPI huh? The fact that it is a "midweek game" has no meaning. Plus, like you said, Northwestern State has a top 40 RPI. That is better than half of the SEC.

I think they are.

What's your point? Doesn't change the fact that our hitters could only muster 1 run against sub par pitchers from a sub par team.
It's one thing to score 1 run and do our usually leave 10 men on base thing. it's another when you score 1 run against a shitty team and only get 4 hits in an 11 inning game.
They played 18 innings, scored 4 runs and had 8 hits against a garbage Notre Dame team. yeah they won them, simply b/c the other team was that bad.

I don't know what the hell went into these players minds for mid week games, but they simply didn't give a shite about winning them all year, and i think that stems from a coach that gives off the impression by what he says and how he pitches, that he doesn't give a shite about winning those games either.
