Beautiful words, and those really got the waterworks going here.

I was a 60-70s kid of Ouachita Parish as well, and those men who raised us were just built differently inside and out. I'm sorry for your loss and prayers said for you all. We somehow learn to go on without them, but they are never lost.

May you and your family find peace during this time. And in honor of a fallen fellow LSU Tiger…

Beautiful tribute. I know you miss this good man who you were justifiably always so proud of.
RIP.

I was a freshman football player in the fall of 1966. I remember your Dad helping coach on the field. Remember that he had a knee issue. He was always very positive with the players. Very easy to talk with.

David Jones was an upperclassman in 1966 and I think David was from West Monroe too. David and I were teammates our remaining LSU years. Any relationship to Bubba?

Your remembrance reflects a close family relationship!!

God bless your family and you.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry for your loss.

I was at that Syracuse game as a 10 year old. My first time in Tulane Stadium. It started my path to LSU.

That’s awesome. Dave is my uncle. One year younger than my dad. He’s a retired pharmacist in Asheville.

My dad was a year younger and from West Monroe so you and I have to be close in age. What schools did you attend in rural Ouachita Parish?

Lost a parent this past year and considered it not a day of mourning, but a day of thanksgiving - that we were blessed to have them in our lives for a very long time. Seems obvious that you were blessed to have him for a father. Peace be unto you and yours.

McClendon basically hated passing the ball

Not true. Pat Screen was putting up impressive numbers passing in both 1963 and 1964 before he got hurt mid-season both years. His backup at the time Billy Ezell tried passing, but was way off target on most of his throws.
