Rewatching the game, I don't think this was on coaching adjustments

They got caught with their pants down on the first drive with Reed that started at the 8 yard line, but quickly adjusted.

The simple problem is that none of the linebackers could keep up with Reed so they started using safeties to "spy" him and the safeties kept missing their tackles. Burns just stood there on one of the touchdowns and let him run in.

Then they all started getting overaggressive and trying to make plays and it became an undisciplined mess where no one was filling their holes.

Really miss Perkins in a spot like that.

Hopefully they can figure something out before Bama, Milroe is a great athlete however he does seem to struggle at times making the correct read on read option plays.

Burns just froze

the playcall was right

Jones pursued the RB and Burns should have been closing on the QB and he jsut didn’t

The playcalling adjusted, the players didn't execute them though.

Perhaps that's on coaches for not practicing these situations more, perhaps it's just a lack of execution.

We'll likely never know.

I think was on the coaches. They clearly were not prepared for Reed even though he had started several games.

It's quite a shift in mentality, you're going all out and attacking a pocket passer for 2.5 quarters who isn't really hurting you on the back end.

Then all of a sudden, you're at your 8 with a horizonal, option based running game, that is attacking you.

They quickly became undisciplined and it was a mess. An avalanche of errors. And Nuss didn't help things by giving them three short fields.

LSU's defense doesn't have enough talent (and A&M is too talented) to allow for any hesitation or lack of discipline.

Quit with the stupid "they weren't prepared' BS. They had just played 2 teams that run zone Read Options. Ole Miss and Ark. So it's not like they had to practice for it again. The players for some reason couldn't play their roles correctly. Not sure why. But even with that if we don't throw the interceptions and we hit a couple of FG we still probably win.

If it’s true that they didn’t prepare for Reed at all, trying to adjust to something that the players are not familiar with is on coaching. But truthfully the blame is on both.

Milroe presents an entirely different set of problems.

He doesn't really get a big chunk of his rushing yardage off of the read option, though that may change once they look at the LSU - Aggie game.

He gets a lot of yardage from called passing plays where he sees an opening and takes it, most often straight up the field. He looks uncomfortable running laterally when he's forced from the pocket.

Also they have a designed running play for him that's essentially the old "student body left." He just takes the snap, and it's a straight run, typically around the left edge, with several blockers in front of him. Very difficult to stop. Considering Milroe is bigger and faster than the LSU defensive backs, the Tigers have to stop this one before it gets started.

He's sporadic on medium passes, but throws a great deep ball. Ryan Williams is a really good young receiver, and their running game finally dominated against Missouri. Whether that means their running game was really good or Missouri is really bad is up for debate.

LSU can't let Milroe beat them. He hasn't played in Tiger Stadium before, so the crowd need to rattle him. The Tennessee crowd did.

It’s lack of common sense.

The defensive calls may have been correct, but according to Penn, practice for the possibility of Reed entering the game was lacking. Reed has played in more than half of their games…

Scored an easy touchdown on this last year IIRC.

They tried it going right vs Tennessee and it got blown up.

Because Weigman was injured.

It hasn’t really been a 2 QB system.

Yea games like Saturday make me even more excited for the 2025 class. On paper they fill a lot of the holes we have rn. Charles Ross on paper is the perfect linebacker to have when facing no qbs like Reed. He has 4.3 speed and 10.2 100 meter at the lb position.

Completely understand the general frustration with this game, but the reaction from the board has been pretty irrational. Think this thread has got it right.

Honestly same thing with the run game. We run the same shite as everybody else — difference is our IOL is weak & our QB has never pulled down a read.

The alternative is that a bunch of guys who are regarded as very good to elite defensive college coaches (Baker, Davis, Peoples, Raymond) have no idea how to defend a basic middle school concept like read option.
