Overall the tackling was much improved, coverage was better, few things I noticed just going through it.

- Speights- had an up and down game, overall I thought he was good, he is a good communicator out there, but he looked to have 1 or 2 busts that led to big plays.
- Andre Sam - I thought he had his best game. Tackled well, and looks to be getting better each week.
- Paris Shand - seems to be him and Jones in the rotation. Shand is more explosive and I think needs more playing time than Jones. Jones is not nearly as athletic as Shand, I think Shand gives you more at that position.
- Zy Alexander- similar to Speights, had an up and down game, but this was his best game. He was much better on playing the ball, they are obviously trying to play him in the boundary. He is for sure the guy AU went after the most, he is getting better, but he will most likely continue to get tested. With him and Sage at corner, that position is the shakiest on D.

I’m glad they’re getting better but I hate we had to get a L to Ole Miss to make these changes.

Fans will always pick the guy who gets more pressure on the QB. Coaches will usually pick the guy who can stand his ground. This is why our fans think Womack should be starting and Perkins should play DE, and the coaches think the fans are nuts.

Typically you're right, but not in this case. I for one understand why Womack is not playing, go look at any of my previous posts like this one, but if you watch the film, which I have, you'll see Shand is much more productive.

I agree. My biggest complaint with Kelly and this staff is that they're reactive instead of proactive. They never seem to be aware of weaknesses until those things are exposed in a game, invariably resulting in a loss. THEN they fix the problem.

He said something yesterday to the effect of, they now realize which players should be playing and what roles each of them should have. After the FSU game, he said he didn't know his team

I think he's a very good coach otherwise, but it's going to be difficult to win championships if they can't spot the problems and how to fix them if it takes a loss or two to figure it out.

Yeah this isn't the NFL where you can find yourself the first half of the season.

Zy Alexander

In Conference games only, Alexander is 5th in the SEC in passes defended per game (1.2). He's 1st in pass breakups (5 total) and T-2nd for total passes defended (6- LSU has played an extra SEC game). He would have 2-3 ints if he could catch.

As hard as it is to watch at times. Alexander is clearly LSU's CB1.

I think we've learned Kelly needs a warm up game or two to start the season.

Unfortunately, that isn't happening anytime soon unless we figure out a way to get week 0 games scheduled.

All of those are aggregate stats he's accrued because he's targeted so much

Top CBs have low numbers in these categories.

What's the QBR/passer rating when he's targeted?

Don’t leave us hanging; what is it? If you are going to use a statistic to argue a point, provide the actual stat. (I agree with your overall point though)

I have no idea how to look it up on my phone in this marathon work meeting, I guess I can look later. I'm not really arguing anything, I'm saying the stats he pulled don't mean he's playing well by any means - then I asked him what the QBR/passer rating was hoping he could add that to his list of stats.

ETA:

shite, it might be good. I have no idea.

Savion Jones is very inconsistent in setting an edge

I'd agree if Savion Jones wasn't allergic to keeping contain.

I think this is a byproduct of relying on the portal so heavily.

It's a "disease" many coaches suffer from. Miles based playing time way too much on practice time/quality. Seems CBK relies on seniority too much.

As a coach you have to hang your hat on something; you have to have a bar/metric to judge your players by. But the "disease" is that when there's not enough info to go on you rely on that old standby. The job is to go seek and/or manufacture that info so you don't have to do that.

When he (or Miles for that matter) has that info the "disease" gets cured so it isn't set in stone. It has a cure.

If 'inconsistent' means horrible, then you are correct.
This kid needs some serious coaching. He is a sucker for the inside fake like no other. Come on coaches, teach him how to hold the edge and turn the play inside where there is help. So tired of watching our outside flanks get torched.

Today, this is true. Starting next year, there’s more opportunity for SEC and Big 10 teams to figure things out in the first 1/4 of the season. 12 playoff spots will make it a lot easier to get in after a great mid to late season push.

This isn’t an excuse for the staff missing on some player evaluations and adjustments, but the new playoff format will definitely change how the sport works.

Why did Logan Diggs Miss game 1 vs FSU? We’ve never been given the real answer.
