Years ago I read an article about some kid maybe from S. LA who was the next Babe Ruth. I want to think he was from around Napoleonville or St. James Parish (sugar cane country).

All I remember was he was called “the Toe”.

He was supposed to sign with LSU but some shite happened. Maybe went to jail?

Anyone know the story?

I don’t think he was going to LSU since he dropped of school in like the 8th grade (estimate).

Skip would’ve really had to pull some strings.

Damn that’s so sad, dudes given all the talent and just didn’t have the support at home. Quiet a few friends from back in the day fell in same path pretty sad. Dudes starting varsity as freshman or crushing dudes souls as a 7th or 8th grader when given reps at varsity practices and crushing it and then never play the game again and getting killed or go to jail for hard time. Really is a shame, if they only had a better upbringing, esp seeing guys that couldn’t hold the jockstrap but get scholarships to big time schools. What could have been

Are you serious? That dude couldn't pass a coloring book test at a junior high much less sniff a college.

If I remember right I think I saw old clips of them playing in a cane field somewhere. He played in the Sugar Cane League.

He is doing great these days, he lives out near Houston or Dallas now. Active at the church he attends and works like anyone else. Think he spent all of his baseball money as he went through the typical lifestyle

The league is made up teams from all over the southern part of the state, all the way to Mississippi.
They play at various ballparks.

Plaquemine All Stars played him at either 12u or 13u. He threw it from center to home without a bounce. Their coach asked ours if he could pitch an inning. Our coach had no clue and said ok. I was first batter. I fouled one over third base coach then struck out. Next two struck out. Their coach grabs me and says I’m the closest to putting him in play all year. Dude was silly. He hit a homer left and right vs us.

His name is Greg “Toe” Nash from Ascension Parish (Sorrento) and Yes I know him personally, if you read the link farther down it kinda tells the story pretty accurate about him staying in trouble and that’s what got the best of him. We are still friends on FB and it looks like he has his stuff together these days living in the houston area and involved in church and stuff. That’s good to see because he went thru a tough stretch with prison, etc
