There was some good & some bad, but in the end it was his 3rd start of career. I think your expectations were probably not tuned appropriately
I never had the high expectations everyone else had of him. I would like to see an open competition between him and Nuss over the next two weeks. I suspect he gets some bias as his brother is a big prospect.

I do expect he can improve a lot when he trusts the routes a bit more.

He’s gotta come to terms with the fact that he’s gonna get hit a lot back there. The missed throws and late decisions happen with a young QB but it’s his habit of drifting back away from the pocket that concerned me the most. When you do that you simply have no chance of success and a largely increased chance for disaster. You can mitigate a wasted play by throwing the ball away or bailing but you can’t drift 5-10 straight back then try to turn a 5-7 yard pass onto a 20 yard throw the way Max did repeatedly. He’s gotta toughen up and just take the hits or learn to adjust protections or check us into the right play.

He did that lastbyear too when pressured

He also isn’t stepping into most of his throws which is effecting his accuracy

I support this message. Somehow we let the defense control the offense play calling and performance. In 2019 the LSU offense put the pressure on the defense play calling.

We were 56% completion percentage against UCLA. We will not win much with that level of performance. Cannot sustain drives. Need to be 70-80% to be high level. FWIW Bryce Young was 71% vs Miami. Completion percentage makes a huge difference.

I saw him sidestep the Rush a couple times and the results were positive or at least more positive that when he drifted. So he can do it but it’s a mental thing he has to realize and get comfortable with doing.

He's a good Qb at least at this stage, its his 3rd game with no rush attack. Very solid game.
I like how yall like to say it was because of the rush attack, but that did not stop Brennan, in his 3rd start, with a torn muscle in his gut area, to put up 430 yards and 4 TDs averaging 9 ypa(would have been 450 and 5 TDs, but the FB let a TD go right through his hands).

That Mizzu team was similar to this UCLA team, but we were matching them point for point until the goal line stand at the end.

80% is a lot.

We can win high 60s.

56 isn’t gonna get it done when you’re averaging 7 yards a pass

When you are one dimensional, have zero running game, run the same plays over and over with the same formations, the defense knows what your doing, damn 8-9 in the box all night and we are running in between the tackles, you can’t tell me we don’t have one miss direction play, jet sweep, power sweep, draw play, screen play, half back pass, come on man,the offensive calling was horrendous

You’re exactly right, just because he had a shaky performance doesn’t mean he stinks. We have to get out of this binary argument and understand that nuance and changing information is always in play with evaluating player performance.

Brennan hits those 3 tds Max missed and we score 45 and win it like Texas.

It’s funny to me that most everyone seems to have regained confidence in Brennan now that he is not the starting quarterback.

I’m not saying you specifically because I don’t know how you felt before but that seems to be the general consensus.

Acknowledging that he had a bad game isn’t the same as saying he stinks.

But some in this thread are trying to convince us he played a good game. But he didn’t. That’s just a fact.

Doesn’t mean he won’t have great games in the future. And we can also acknowledge that he didn’t have a lot of help Saturday night.

Max being a good player and Max having a bad game are not mutually exclusive.

Sorry some (Lester) can’t see or admit that.

Tried to warn people that setting too high of expectations for Max was a mistake. All summer you had people claiming he was some hybrid of Peyton Manning with Mike Vick level mobility. He’s a dink and dunk passer with some mobility and only 2 starts prior to Saturday. Being dishonest about his ability doesn’t help anything.

It's not that people have regained confidence in Brennan, but they realize that Max is turning out a performance that is at best even with what people were roasting Brennan for.

We just played a dominant defense with some great players. And they had an Antonio Gates clone on offense.

Lol we were joking Saturday night saying if the Heisman was chosen Monday he might be the first TE to win it.

He held on too long at times, had some good throws and not so good. Tempo sucked, maybe because he’s young. No running game doesn’t help your qb either.
