He has the best velocity on the team and I considered him the Friday night starter from the first weekend. It does appear though, Johnson is grooming him for that type of role. I can get on board with it.

Reyzelman gets them up and down in order with 1K and then turns to Gold dugout and does a chirping motion with his hand as he stares them down and walks off.

Gold dugout was loud as heck tonight. They were the underdogs but played great.

If Braden Doughty is a guy that ends up needing to be moved off the roster due to limits, I hope this weekend is the first step toward him being brought on as an undergrad assistant or GA. I think he’s good to have around the program.

I agree with you. I had a similar thought on here at the beginning of fall.

Some interesting decisions and conversations coming soon for the staff and players.

Not that it matters, but LSUsports.net shows the final score as 11-7 Purple. Did they have some kind of modified scoring system in place?

I think this is where they see Reyz. Late game "shut your damn mouth" kinda guy. I think he could be a starter but it appears they like him on that short/intermediate, blow your candles out role.

He sounds like one of those FITZ - fearless in the zone - type pitchers. See the ball, hit the ball....if you can. With some attitude on top.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere he has had some arm issues in the past. I think Tommy John surgery a few years ago(could be wrong). It’s probably a durability, pitch count thing as much as anything with that kind of velocity…

He started games all summer in the cape cod

Would be absolutely perplexing for him not to start

Yes. They’ve used a modified one all season; but I think the one they’re using for this weekend may even be a little more different.

LSU Baseball Twitter account tried to explain it. Something about getting a point for “winning situations”, plus the runs actually scored, and then an extra point for “winning” the inning. Or something along those lines.

Each inning one team was awarded 1 point for winning the inning per Coach J's scoring system added to the conventional scoring.

Yes, he had TJ surgery in spring of 2020, his freshman season. Tried to come back a little too soon this past season; which only caused command issues. He didn’t have a re-aggravation of the injury or anything.

But after working with a specialist in June before reporting to Cape Cod, he regained command and made a big jump in velocity.

I think we were all high on him being a starter and thought he would for several reasons. One, because of the velocity. Two, because he reportedly had a 3-4 pitch mix. And three, most importantly, he was used primarily as a starter in the Cape and went 4-5 innings in every game he started. So it’s not like he hadn’t already been working this summer as a starter and seemed to handle the work fine.

But again, we really won’t know till spring for sure what the plan is. It could just be they were taking it easy on him this fall since he did pitch this summer and didn’t see a need to stretch him out. But the feeling right now is they might just be planning to use him in the pen.
