I am in favor recruiting as it is, and cannot question the positive results.

Someone overpaying for a guy doesn't make that market value.

Not for guys who weren’t special. We have plenty of okay guys on the roster already.

We do with recruits out of HS. Kelly is in this for the long haul

No they don’t. They just aren’t LSU homers. I feel like they are even about all teams across the board, even FSU

Shhhh don’t you know that Bryce Underwood is playing for free? He’s just a Michigan kid who grew up loving LSU.

That’s what some of these people would have you believe.

You don’t recruit as well as BK has, in this era of football, without putting together very valuable and competitive NIL packages.

frick dem.

Defensive football is a team sport. Guillory and Lee have chips on their shoulders and we brought in some guys to rotate.

The support around them and new scheme/coaching will make a difference. If they get a little confidence and swagger, everything changes.

Blowing up team chemistry and morale over 1 “maybe” overpaid DT ain’t worth it.

Bud Elliott is pretty ridiculously critical of LSU and Brian Kelly especially.

That dude has a thick air of smugness about him.

Absolutely not, he’s already got the recruits coming. At some point soon, we won’t be dependent on the portal at all

You will always need the portal. These kids don’t have loyalty anymore. You can get the best class ever and half of them may be gone the following year .

Not if you're recruiting players with the right character. Yes, you'll always lose a few in the portal but some teams/coaches will keep the majority of their players because of the type of player they recruit and the culture of their team.

This is why you are not in charge…

Better to find another way to fix the DT problem than lose the other 83 guys who did not get unwarranted special treatment. If you think we lost a lot to the portal last wait til next year after you screwed everyone else on their NIL.

You can't read.

I literally pointed out the decision could be a right one long term.

But, you are wrongly equating that with assuming you can fix it this year any other way.

You’ll always need the portal. However, you need to maximize value from it, not overpay to an insane extent for mediocre players.

No you do NOT NEED to pony up for transfers. We can begin recruiting better and developing them with Bo now on staff. Give it two years and lets see the improvement from depth to development and I bet none of it is done by giving out a ton of $$ to transfer portal warriors on the DL.

There is a reason that those 2 big DTs from spring didn't transfer in the winter. They woudln't have been 1 and 2 in the portal at that time. They created an inflated value based on timing. Paying inflated market value for eggs isn't smart if you have chickens in the hen house laying some. You're better off just letting them develop. (eggs being freshmen-McKinley, Reliford, Breaux).

LSU has the bodies(9 interior DL), they need experience. But LSU isn't Ole Miss, we don't need to go all in for one year.

We are definitely doing that for high school players now. I also think the staff has shown they will go hard after guys like Wingo in the portal because they have multiple years to contribute. Also, the hired gun approach with Harris and Chestnut backfired pretty badly last year.

While this is true in general, we haven't seen this to be a huge problem here. Heard is the only one that comes to mind. BK has been pretty good at retaining our best players.

Would you spend a million on a transfer Dlineman that’s demanding that kind of money that barely did anything against good competition the previous season?

Good Lord I’m just glad Brian Kelly has some common sense at least instead of throwing tons of money away on average transfers.

Interpreted also as “ I’m not an idiot willing to blow most of the NIL money on a couple average D lineman transfers that did hardly anything last year against good competition and chance losing the entire locker room over it”

You aren’t guaranteed to dig yourself out of the hole even if they did come because odds are if they weren’t difference makers in their previous conferences then they sure as hell won’t amount to much in the SEC other than just a body on the field.

Apparently they were good enough because they got what they were asking for from other schools. They were correct about their market value. The market value of something is what the someone is willing to pay for it.

Market value doesn’t equate to actual value. Many of these players weren’t “good enough” to start on their former teams.

New and used cars during covid years were over valued due to lack of supply. At the end of the day, a Ford Fiesta is still a crap car regardless as to whether it sold for 15k or 30k.

Same applies here. BK knows what he’s doing.
