Here’s what people have to remember when they set the three permanent rivals - it will not hold as much sway on your overall conference strength of schedule as the permanent rival from the division days. Back then, you would play an identical schedule of 6 games to every division opponent then half of the remaining games were fixed, so that one piece really changed things.

Now, however, we are talking about 3 fixed games of 9 and the 6 are going to be chosen to balance the 3.

Let’s suppose there are 8 top tier school and 8 lower tier schools. If your 3 permanents are 2 top and 1 lower, and you’re a top, then the remaining 6 games will be chosen from 5 top and 8 lower, so you can see you’d have a 2/4 mix top/low most likely, maybe 3/3 giving you a blend of 5/4 or 4/5 top/low

I would think Ole Miss and Arkansas are locks. Then either ATM, Bama or Florida.

I doubt Mississippi St. will be one of the teams. At every chance recently the SEC had determined "permeant opponents" State hasn't been one of them

Which is dumb. It’s our oldest rival/team we’ve played the most, and their second oldest. They should at least be considered.

However, with MSST sucking, there are more games I would prefer to see, like against Florida A&M, or Bama.

I think good permanents would be Ole Miss, Florida, A&M.

Could be of course. But I'll stick with LSU in Ark's opponents instead of A&M. Seems geographically unbiased to me...otherwise Arkansas would play 2 teams from Texas.

This would be great for the teams chances of making the playoffs but terrible for the fans

is a lock. I believe A&M is as well. That leaves Alabama and Arkansas as the third options imo.

Using your example (or any of the main ones being proposed) brings up an interesting issue. If those were the three opponents, who would LSU play on the final weekend? All of those three perms have rivalries they play on the final weekend so it couldn’t be them. And most of the other schools do also. It would either have to be a nonconference game or some sort of rotation with Arkansas, Missouri and/or OU.

Realistically, hoping for Ole Miss, A&M, and Arkansas but expecting we'll get Alabama instead of Arky. Feels like Ole Miss and A&M are locks.

I know I am in the minority but I think they should just do a rotating schedule with no annual rivalries.

I'll bet it's Ol' Miss, Arkansas, and A&M.

I'd trade A&M for UF, personally.

Dunno, but I don't want to lose Bama as a permanent.

I mean, the series is 27-57-5 all time. Beating them is like being on cloud 9, but it’s more of a rarity for us. I wouldn’t cry if I didn’t play them annually.
