Possible future LSU strategy

After the State ruling favorable to the Players, LSU may go ahead and add them to the roster but not allow them to play in a game until this is sorted out. That way LSU can say they were in acceptance of the ruling but preserve the argument before the SEC that their actions had no impact on the outcome of any game ! This would allow practice time, preparation and time for the issue to be sorted out.

Agreed. I think either do what you said or just hold the roster spots open until there is a little more clarity or all of the BS dies down, which it inevitably will once the games start.

I don’t think you can just hold the roster spots. It sounds like today you have to give a finalized roster to the sec.
So you put them on and maybe don’t play them this week.

Dellenger reported yesterday, per SEC bylaws, you can leave roster spots open and add players later.
Either way - to the OP’s point - probably not wise to actually play the guys yet. I think that would be an unnecessary risk for LSU. Just have some patience and wait a few weeks.
Now that I’m thinking through it, you don’t want the players suing you either… so the best course of action is what OP said: roster them, but don’t play them yet.

Well the new SEC rule prevents us from even rostering the players. It's not enforceable based on the injunction however.

Per the players’ attorney, as LSU was enjoined in the injunction, he would consider pushing for contempt findings against LSU for simply not rostering the players. Now, is that posturing or simply trying to provide LSU some additional cover from the fallout? We may never know.
It would certainly be an interesting strategy by LSU to take all the backlash they have from this, gain the court’s protection, then not even roster the players.

If they want to wait, they will simply not roster them. So long as they are enrolled at LSU, they can be added to the roster later.

There's a good chance we lose this in federal court. I wouldn't roster these guys until we have certainty. Not worth it....

If you have roster spots open during the season, you can add any qualified member of the student body.
Lots of stories throughout college football history of adding a "12th man" from the student body to help during the year.

The SEC needed all of these suits and court proceedings to happen. If the courts rule the SEC can have and enforce its rules on its members it will set precedent for a new league away from the NCAA.

Yea he just made that up.
The sec case is flimsy, there is questions if they can even sue LSU in north Alabama. The only way we would lose would be a completely corrupted federal judge.

Problem now is we can't avoid rostering them on the grounds of fear of retribution from the SEC/NCAA. The court order says that.
We can roster them and not play them though, and hope that calms the storm.
