Let's say that Lange is MORE of a power pitcher than Poche. We know Lange needs more rest and longer rest has benefited him already once this year.

I think that's more of a freshman not used to a college workload than one being more of a power pitcher than the other.

My comment was aimed at everyone saying this was done with coming out of the losers bracket in mind. Not throwing your ace in game one of the CWS goes against the normal logic. I think this has more to do with Lange getting rest then thinking about games deeper in the tournament.

That's not true about Poche in the championship series. If we win our 3 games, then it will likely be Poche again in game 1 of the series

If LSU wins their first three games, Poche won't pitch three times though; which is best case scenario. Throwing Poche first here allows you to pitch him out of the losers bracket should you need to and then also throw him in the championship series.

Poche won't throw on Thursday if the Tigers win Sunday and Tuesday. BUT, should they lose Sunday or Tuesday and need to play Friday he can pitch Friday then again on 4 days rest on the 23rd or 5 days rest on the 24th.

who knows Poche's vs RH/LH splits?

My best guess is Coach Dunn and CPM...

But the guy who is throwing game 1 was LSU's Friday night (game 1) guy all year. Their rotation was kinda quirky all year.

I completely agree.

Hope it works out. Would suck to burn our pen or a potential starter down the line(Bain) in Gm1.

They'll need all of Lange vs. Vandy.

It sets up a potential huge matchup between Lange and Carson Fulmer on Tuesday. If Tim Corbin rolls the dice and both LSU and Vanderbilt win on Sunday.

Sorry should have read above me. Evidently Corbin is starting Fulmer on Sunday.

If we win, I'll be a big Fullerton fan. I don't know who they'll throw after Eshelman, but I'd rather see that than a Vandy team that still has Buehler and Pfeifer available.

Lange facing Swanson should be fun

He has a really wide range with speed. FB tops out around 86 or so. Has been clocked as low as 59 on the junk! Hard to believe that can even get to the plate.

He had one bad outing this year where he just didn't have his stuff. Other two losses were on the offense like the aggy Super. Probably left him in one inning too long but our closer had been struggling. Blew that save and the game three save. He will have a different roll in Omaha.

Should be a good matchup.

They'll probably just throw Eshelman again.

As a coach you have to assume your #1 and #2 are going to get you 2 wins

I disagree, as the person in charge you have to consider all potential scenarios. He can talk big and exude al the confidence in the world; however, he has to prepare for the possibility of a loss down the road.

Let's hope this is the right call, Marinara can't afford another 0-fer in Omaha!

I'd rather us be going against someone who throws 96 personally.

A coach will of course have most if not all scenarios planned out. We have two very good started and one who is exceptionally good and LSU didn't just scrape in. You use your bullpen with thoughts about down the road but with Lange and Poche you don't base starters on thinking down the road.

I love poche against tcu. If we win we play vandy or Fullerton with Lange on the hill. Those 2 will burn there aces against eachother and be in a dog fight. Winner of the World Series takes risk. It's good to see maineri do this. Also don't rule out poche closing a possible game 3 a la Coleman to get us in the championship I think that has more to do with the decision then anything.

I couldn't believe how much they used him in the supers.

Me too, although it seems to be the soft throwing lefties that give us fits.
