Plus, I think he likes going back to Poche on short rest should LSU need to come out of the losers bracket more than Lange.

This was definitely a factor. I'm thinking back to the UGA series when we threw Lange and Poche on the same day, then had to pick one of them to throw on 4 days rest against A&M. CPM chose Poche then, and is doing the same now. The favorable matchup against TCU only makes it better.

*knocking on wood*

In a perfect world
Poche wins game 1
Eshelman wins games 1
Fr. Lange vs Fr. Gavin in the winners bracket game

Lange is a power pitcher and Poche is not so it's much easier for him to come back on short rest. I like the decision here.

Guess their 7 lefty starters convinced him. I don't mind it at all. He's been pitching great lately and TCU isn't a great hitting team.

I'm pretty sure that 3 of those are switch hitters. So basically, we're just turning those guys around.

You don't base your game one starter on possibly having to come out of the losers bracket. As a coach you have to assume your #1 and #2 are going to get you 2 wins. You throw whoever gives you the best chance to win.

I am curious if Lange needs the extra rest after his longest outing.

Yeah I'll go on record and say that it's the right move, no matter if we win or lose.

It's not really based on coming out of the losers bracket. If you throw Poche in game 1, you can likely throw him three times if you make it to the championship series. So, Whether you come out of the winners or losers bracket you will have Lange and Poche ready to go.

If you throw Lange first, you cannot throw Poche in the championship series because there isn't enough rest.

If you throw Poche first he can pitch on Sunday, then again on Thursday and again on Tuesday for the championship series.

If you throw Lange, he can't go on that short of rest.

Can't pitch Lange three games, so makes sense to start Poche plus all the lefties for TCU. Not sure if Vandy or CSF have a bunch of lefties or switch hitters as well.

I mean not really. They're fastballs are like 2 mph difference. They're basically the same pitcher. Just from different sides. Their curveballs act a little differently as well.

That's not true about Poche in the championship series. If we win our 3 games, then it will likely be Poche again in game 1 of the series

ETA: nvm. Misread

Let's say that Lange is MORE of a power pitcher than Poche. We know Lange needs more rest and longer rest has benefited him already once this year.

I definitely don't mind giving Lange more rest. He's coming off of two outings where he threw over 100 pitches.
