BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Attorneys for at least 48 athletes are asking a state judge to hold the Southeastern Conference, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and LSU in contempt over an eligibility order, according to a court filing.
The motion for contempt and for a rule to show cause, filed Oct. 5 in the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish, alleges the SEC and LSU violated a preliminary injunction signed Sept. 9.
According to the filing, the Sept. 9 order allows the plaintiffs to compete in SEC or NCAA Division I athletics during the 2026-2027 season if they terminated any professional contract and repaid compensation. The motion quotes the order as stating the plaintiffs “are eligible today” if they would have otherwise been eligible to continue playing.

LSU isn’t even a party, right?

So we played a soccer player, but denied the football players? That seems pretty stupid. Let's risk it for a sport no one cares about but back off for football. All the soccer thing did was give evidence to the football players that LSU treated them unfairly; otherwise, we may have been left out of it. At the very least, we would have had a stronger defense.

Our argument is we were under severe threat from the SEC. They held a gun to our head.

LSU is done in the SEC
SEC will go after FSU Clemson or North Carolina as replacement

So what’s happening is exactly what Murrill filed in her amicus brief? Shocker.

That was our argument, until we played a soccer player—that's my point.

Hope Rousse sends the bill for any and all attorney’s fees we incur to Sankey and his office for putting us in this position.

SEC didn't seem to care about that.
Remind me, because I don't think I remember, did that soccer player sign any sort of pro contract?

Did the soccer player sign a professional contract? If not, then LSU’s argument that the SEC coerced us into not playing the football players still holds.

The lawsuit filed against LSU also focused on Lane Kiffin. Clearly identifying the SEC's motivation was football.

Don't know. I didn't know about the soccer player until reading that blurb.

One player, Jazmin Ferguson, terminated a professional contract and returned to collegiate soccer, the filing states. While a temporary restraining order was in effect, LSU played Ferguson in matches, according to the motion.

What makes you say that?

Yes, because the made up SEC rule only applies to former NFL, NBA and G league. Doesn’t apply to soccer, baseball, softball, etc

you mean the 2 guys on the football team who signed a "pro contract" to attend a mini camp and one to a preseason roster only because at the time it was their only option?
