One would think this is the case, but Jay is fired up about Dutton right now. He brought him in in the 8th inning with the tying run on base in game 1.

Dutton got the save in a 2-0 game in game 2. Then in game 4 with a one tun lead in the 9th, Dutton was warming in the pen if Fidel got into any trouble.

Yeah, all this is undeniable. I was kind of surprised to see him in there in game 1.

Veeeeery interesting

I didnt get to watch Most of last weekend but I heard Jump looked awesome and Jay talked super highly about him.

I am surprised he went from closer to starter just because I assumed it was a load management thing,

Maybe Dutton is in the Coop role this year. At least for now.

The plan has always been for him to be a starter.

And him starting on Thursday and throwing 45-50 pitches doesn't negate any load management. It's the ramp up.

Won't pile on CPM. Good coach. Good for my school. It was time.

But it's really impressive at the arms CJJ's amassed.

All Jones needs to do is get his bunts in play and they'll get to the gaps

if anderson keeps pitching well, does he stay a midweek starter?

wouldn’t he be more valuable as a long reliever on weekends?

Curious how much he will be extended. Weather is supposed to be a little nuts. Winds 20 mph out of the SSW with gusts up to 40.

ETA: SSW is straight out to center.

I would assume he would see a similar outing as Coleman and Anderson around 3-4 innings MAX.

Should be a good hitting day for our power hitters.

I don't think he was ever really considered as a potential closer. He is a starter being worked back from injury and he just happened to close out the first game.

I don't think JJ is going to have the person who he feels is his next best pitcher not throw in a high leverage weekend spot just to be saved for a midweek start. You throw your best guys needed to win whatever game you are playing that day, and then piece it together during the week.

Yep. Jay has a different view on Dutton than some on this board.

eh idk

in 2022 Dutton started on sundays
in 2023 Jay sent dutton out as a sacrificial lamb against Florida to just try and get us through Hame 2 without burning good arms.

True, but this is 2024.

He looked good in the fall scrimmages and, as mentioned before, he was the guy in the bullpen in almost every high leverage situation opening weekend (including the save in the 2-0 game on Saturday).
